GW/GWX question
In GW I rareley see aircraft. It is almost 1942. Am I just not far enough into my carear?
|
At time compressions of more than 512, there are no aircraft. Set it to 256 to be certain.
You should see aircraft in '42. Depends on chance, I've found. In some patrols you see many, in some none. |

We've found evidence of time compression interfering with aircraft ops in SH3 even at TC levels as low as 8x... (not nearly as much as higher levels... but still)
Airpower in GWX has been totally re-worked... Still there are huge problems bringing aircraft into play without SWAMPING the player in continuous attacks. I will say that we will err on the conservative side ... but not as much as we did in GW 1.0. Another thing that is factoring into our judgement is that we have placed airbases and aircraft in historically accurate locations and densities... The SH3 engine doesn't seem to care!:p We can plug in real-life data all day long... and still have to bend it (often significantly) to get real-world results. Getting places like the Bay of Biscay to be "just right" appears to hamper aircraft spawning in other areas. There is nothing simple about the problem. All I can tell you is that we are doing everything we can to strike a decent balance.... Testing of various sites in game will not occur over 128x TC. Ergo such things take time. The only promise that we will give you regarding aircraft is that we are watching. However a word of caution... anyone who travels through areas well covered by air patrols at high TC and reports no air contact here... is not providing "accurate" data. |
I wouldent mind getting swamped with aircraft. As long as I see them. :damn:

As I said... there is nothing simple about it... and trust me, YOU WOULD MIND continuous and sustained air attacks.
You'd be quite upset indeed. |

I pull my statment(for now) I am in CG87 and I have been attacked 6 times. And the patrol is only half done.

NOT having a go at GW - let's make that clear!
I'm running NYGM 2.2 and the treatment of aircraft is good. Certain areas are pretty much assured of aircraft, and you need to crash dive ASAP - fighting them isn't an option as they use their additional weapons (read mg and cannon) as well as bombs/DCs. Certainly TC nerfs aircraft. Teddy Bar explained this pretty well in another post as having to do with the distance things travel between 'checks' when at high TC. Put crudely, the aircraft might well be there but are passing over you between 'checks' so you don't, in effect, contact them. I imagine there are similar reasons for this in GW, although it does seem more people comment on aircraft going AWOL in GW than NYGM. All in all, the main point is WHERE you are, the DATE, and how high you're running TC. As has been stated, running high TC in 'risky' areas - especially if in light fog - can mean your first experience can be noises of bullets hitting your boat! Again, to ensure there are no misunderstandings, I have posted simply to comment on my experiences in NYGM and what I see as likely similar root causes to this issue. |

This has been known since day 1 of SH3. |
Right.
There is only one way to deal with aircraft spawnings across the board... and that is to alter the airstrike configuration file. The problem with this is a draconian one. Using the airstrike configuration file to strike a good balance is very difficult. In GW we were conservative. One set of recent tests had us swamped in aircraft. Airbases in GWX are placed in historically accurate locations and densities... and STILL there will always be a challenge because of TC. We will wind up with a good mix... and the Bay of Biscay is our measuring stick for some things... It should be the hottest place on earth for air attacks on U-boats. Try not to worry. We are addressing it from more than one angle... with upwards adjustments controlled in a conservative fashion by me. Believe me though... one wrong step with some things will see your U-boat being bombed every 200-300 meters!!! :rotfl: This is not acceptable.:stare: :arrgh!: |
