OM Darkwaters question
 
I noticed when I'm promoting my crew there is no choice of guns as specialty. Is this deliberate or a mod fault? I never can see my gun crews with a high total efficiency bar. At most it's been 1/4 of the way.

i am not sure if Fifi was continuing a previously established method by OpMonson (Ducimus?) or if he did that on his own. A SWAG says that it was the former rather than the latter.

do you want to retrofit guns into your crew skills?
i could develop a Mod for that and you can use JSGME to apply it.

That would be great Sir. Another thing I noticed is I can't pick off the guns on ships that are firing at me, I used to be pretty good at nailing them with AP in vanilla and destroying them so they couldn't shoot at me, These ones in OM darkwaters never get destroyed. What would be involved in making them vulnerable? Thanks!

my guess is that it is the damage model. if the modder made the weapon such that is could be destroyed independently of the ship, then you can take it out with gunfire.

if a modder has redone the ship damage model then you are probably out of luck.

so, if you want that capability again, you need to re-do the damage model for each ship that has guns and separate the weapon from the ship in terms of exposure to direct fire and subsequent damage.

i thought i posted a response but it's not here so i guess not.
a mind is a terrible thing to get old.

i do not think it will matter where you apply it because only the first Mod for DW will modify the folders and files involved.

Thanks! Should I wait till my campaign is done to apply it, don't want my campaign wacked out in the middle?

no. you can apply this between missions while you are in port and i do not think it will impact your career.

Will it change any of the skills already assigned to the crew in the middle of the career?

no, i do not think so. i applied this to my installation and tested it with a saved-career and did not experience a CTD.
i think if you apply it between missions, things will be fine.
