[REL]3000 Meter Bearing Plotter Tool for Operation Monsun

3000 Meter Bearing Plotter Tool for OM U-Boats (only for 1920xY resolution)
...just in case, OM stands for Operation Monsun
...
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...00yat1360x.jpg

  • I have only adapted 1920xY res version for OM.
  • This is JSGME ready(TM).

A WARNING!

Don't let the tiny archived file size (XX KB) fool you! This mini mod is SYSTEM RESOURCE INTENSIVE. This mini mod includes a shp.dds file for each U-boat. For example, stock OM shp.dds file for Type IIB is 5 MB and this one 43 MB.

Now you may say "Don't worry, I have 38 MB extra memory on my gaming rig!", please be advised that this file is (probably) expanded in memory and the 'small' difference of 38 is multiplied several times.

As a quick test case I just launched submarine school to test with 'torpedo course'.
  • Case 1 (Standard OM+OMEGU) sh4.exe memory consumption = 1.860.352
  • Case 2 (OM+OMEGU modified with this mod) sh4.exe memory consumption = 1.010.456
As displayed above, impact is much more than 38 MB file size difference...

HISTORY OF THE MOD
The main mod was made long ago by many modders named in CREDITS and later adapted to Silent Hunter 4 by CapnScurvy. For more information on what it is, see the link below to the main thread for this great tool.

ancient credits (initial idea/work)
=============
Credit for the initial Bearing Plotter goes to Pato back in the SHIII days. CaptainCox, 13th4l, NoWonderDog, and Rockin Robbins have all had contributing work and revisions to the mod. Without their efforts I could not have completed my small part.

update >> [REL] 3000 Yard/Meter Bearing Plotter Tool
This is a rework of previous mods that dealt with an in-game bearing plotter for the Navigation and Attack Map screens. It is compatible for both American and German side of play, at either Metric or Imperial measurements (as long as you choose the correct edition), and at 8 "basic" game resolutions depending on your particular hardware and in-game settings.

The OP last posted here in April. Here is an older version, also for 1920 resolution. It you want to run other resolutions there are other versions of this mod available.

Where are the resolutions for 1680 and all of the U-boats in Op Monsun/ Omegu? I looked at this mod and it only supports 2 of the U-boats at 1920.

I don't know anything about what u-boats are supported, as I never get a chance to play SH4 anymore.

Thank you. I'll check them out see if they will work with OP Monsun/ Omegu

For those that wish to use the 3000 Yard/Meter Bearing Plotter with Operation Monsun and its Environment Pack (OMEGU), download the specific size Bearing Plotter mod from the "Downloads" menu of this page (scroll up to the top of the page^^^).....found under "Silent Hunter 4", "Game Play Mods", Page 3 (the metric versions are on page 4...as of the posting, Dec. 2014). Choose the specific resolution mod that match's the resolution you're using to play the game, and the option of unit measurement your using as well (Meters or Yards). Once the correct 3000 Yard/Meter Bearing Plotter is extracted into your JSGME "MODS" folder, open it:

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0c92ab4f.jpg

By "right" clicking on the mod's "Submarine" folder you will open a Windows submenu....clicking on the "New" heading will bring up another submenu, click again to create a new "Folder" within the Submarine folder of the Bearing Plotter.

Now, open the "Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" game folder, drill through the folder's Data/Submarine to find the following German subs that are added when using OpsMonsun_V705/OMv705_To_V720/OMv720_Patch5/OMEGU_v300/OMEGUv300_Patch7:

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps36466a72.jpg

Using the above list as a guide, "Rename" the "New" folder you just made in the Bearing Plotter's Submarine folder to match the first playable German submarine folder above...."NSS_Uboat2b". Do this folder "Creation"/"Renaming", for each of the German submarine folders found in Operation Monsun (there are 16 new German submarine folders from OM).

Once all folders are accounted for, "Copy and Paste" the specific "xxx_shp.dds" image file to all folders (it doesn't matter from which folder you choose the "_shp.dds" file, you'll be changing its name in the next step):

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps375c5ceb.jpg

Your last step is to "Rename" each of the "_shp.dds" images to match the specific submarine folders name it's now placed in. In other words, "Rename" the above file "NSS_Uboat9d2_shp.dds" (after it's put into the first folder "NSS_Uboat2b"), to "NSS_Uboat2b_shp.dds". Do this for all folders, except for the two that's highlighted in green.....their already corrected from the stock game submarine inventory.

That's all there is to it. When you activate the 3000 Yard/Meter Bearing Plotter through JSGME, the added German submarines of OM/OMEGU will have the correctly sized Plotter for each sub available.

==================

As it was pointed out, these files are large. The larger the resolution, the larger the image file needed to be to correctly provide accurate range. The 1920x image is 92"x92" wide. That's over 7 1/2 feet square!! If you have more than 2 gigs of memory, its particularly important to put the extra memory to use by using an app like "Large Address Aware" to have the game run as smoothly as possible.

Thanks Capn, followed your procedure and mods work flawlessly.
