Now THIS is an interesting math problem. Can we figure out which bearing-angle we have to take on a ship so that when at a certain speed (say full speed), the bearing on the ship won't change. And can we calculate the ships speed from that?
I tried it but my trigonometry is a bit rusty.... Known parameters are the AOB, own speed and bearing- angle. The best I can do is: Target speed = sin(angle difference from 0 at which bearing keeps constant) x Speed ownship. In other words: the angle difference from 0 is ARCSIN(Target speed/ Own speed) |

Thank you! The division by Sin (AOB) is essential as I figured out the problem at a 90 deg angle
Could it be that in your video at 44:56 you mention that the constant bearing is 25.2 when it actually is 24.8? |
