Yes, I use the LAA patch & Multi SH4 on the exe.

I agree RR, I won't look at the exe..... better to be safe than sorry.

Jeff-Groves 07-19-16 04:57 PM

TDW also did the patches for SH5 files.
So SH4 is the Red-headed stepchild.
:-?

I highly doubt there'd be any issues doing the same to SH4.
It's just there's no one to do it.

I believe that is a registry patch. You can do it to any file on your machine. A hex edit would have to know where the memory lookup routines are in the exe (each one would be different) and then alter the exe. This would throw Windows protected folder software into a catatonic fit if the program were in the \program files or \program files (x86) directories. Since it does not do so, that is evidence that the LargeAddress Aware.exe file is a registry hack.

I believe there is a SH4 Patch here at SubSim I did to enable stuff.
:hmmm:
It patches the EXE.

Oops!! Here it is!!!

I was really burned out on SH4 and haven't touched it in a long while, but this project gets me so exited! I can't wait to play again!

A big thanks to everyone involved! I know it is a lot of hassle and headache, but it is a such tremendous service to the community! :subsim:

Well, LargeAddress Aware.exe starts up and asks you which program you want to make large address aware. You get a regular explorer dialog box, from which you can select any program running on your computer.

So it was research, research, research time and I found we're both right. Every file has a samely structured file header as the first block of the file. This file header tells Windows what manner of beast it is working with and in the file header is a flag that tells Windows whether the exe can access more than 2 GB of memory.

The header is not part of Ubi's code. It is a common chunk of every exe program on the machine. That's why Jeff is right: it's attached to Ubi's code. That's why I'm right: you are NOT changing Ubi code at all and so are in the clear.

Thanks, james. I can't say for everyone else on the project, but I'm enjoying myself. Gives me a chance to do something I've always liked doing with SH4 and that is play around with the ME. :03:

CapnScurvy 07-20-16 11:13 AM

This beta version.....just what the heck is in it!!!!

What's different than the load screen?

I expected to see some content we've been working on.

Rockin Robbins 07-20-16 11:31 AM

Ruh roh...........Why didn't it work. I took the last version, installed CapnScurvy's new mod, pulled the extra junk folders out, it should have work....

So Capn, you didn't see any of your work in there? I started playing, went up on deck to use the binoculars and saw the same old same old last night, thought maybe you didn't do the whole OTC treatment, just calibrated them. Then I realized that I hadn't run MultiSH4 and it was trying to save on top of my TMO stuff.

At that point I got involved in an immigration problem my wife's family has asked me to help with and was sucked into the vortex!

So everybody check in. Do you see CapnScurvy's stuff in the beta.1 version?

Capn, what could I possibly do wrong in melding your stuff with the old mod?

CapnScurvy 07-20-16 11:47 AM

After loading up the Beta, thinking were onto another step, I quickly found myself with a CTD after adding what should have been my working mod for continuing the ship checks. Nope, the CTD caused a long list of "file not found" things.

As I looked into the Beta, I really don't see anything changed at all over the Alpha.....except for the load screen. Same "created" dates on just about everything.

Even the double Hap folder is still in.

Rockin Robbins 07-20-16 12:24 PM

That is very strange. I spent a couple of hours at the hot cauldron to ensure everything went right. Everybody delete the new one. I'm deleting it and starting from scratch.

I can't imagine what could go wrong twice in a row with a simple, straightforward process I've done six times before with no problems whatever!:/\\!!

Thought it was a cauldron problem. It might be the witch!:D
The witch has suddenly become a bloomin' idiot!

XTBilly 07-20-16 12:26 PM

CaptScurvy, if you can't find your work in the Beta, you've got a wrong version.
The Beta is 928MB compressed. The 0.6 Alpha was 737MB compressed.

The Beta includes all of your work.

Billy.

Rockin Robbins 07-20-16 12:36 PM

Yeah, I double-checked everything. I'm infallable! It was right I tell you.:D:D:D

And the size difference was one reason I thought everything was great. This is really puzzling. Mumble Mumble. Take mod. Check to make sure the first subdirectory is \data. Drag \data from new mod into main directory of existing mod. Drop. Tell to overwrite everything that moves. Stir well on medium high heat while chanting incantations. 7zip it up. Upload. Serves thousands.

I just don't know what could go wrong there. Keep me posted and I'll check from my end as much as I can away from my home computer.

.06Alpha 755,299 kilobytes, .1Beta 950758 kilobytes. Well, they're definitely different. Now to look at details...... talk among yourselves while I go silently MAD! Muahahahahahahahaha!
