New Cadet from England

Hi Guys
I am a retired bloke and have never used a forum before, so please excuse me
for being a bit long winded. I had the first issue of Silent Hunter a few years ago
but I lost interest. I have watched dozens of videos and would now like to have
another shot. But how on earth do I get started? I would like to buy SH5. I understand that it would have to be modified and my rig would have to be up to a certain standard.
Your help would be very much appreciated

Welcome, I guess no one has answered yet. You can buy SHV here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4..._the_Atlantic/

The Berbster has a page with tons of tutorials on how to modify (mod) SHV to be playable. Here's a link:

That should at least get you started. You'll likely have lots more questions. Ask away. I hope you get more timely answers than mine!

Cheers, and enjoy!

Hello Francis!

Welcome to the community and feel free to ask anything at all. I can't help much - I'm one of the guys that needs help lol but I can say this place is extremely friendly, helpful and outgoing.

My personal advice is once you get SH5 up and running, play Vanilla (the basic game) a few days until you get comfortable, and familiar with its many deficiencies. Then, download the incredible "Wolves of Steel" mod, which turns the game into simply one of the most outstanding sub sims ever built. :) It takes a bit of careful work, but the install guide (which I personally ignored the first time to my detriment) gives a step-by-step procedure for installing. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Cheers! And welcome!
