SH3 and SH4 Mods in SH5?

Can you put SH4 mods in SH5? Or maybe SH3 mods in SH5? :ping:

honestly I can't see the relevance of the poll and the thread....

And I prefer SH5 mods for SH5. :O:

As for the answer to the question: technically - you can; some of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if SH5 won by a large measure. Yet, try submitting the same poll in the SHIII section and see what happens ;)

Well in fact SH5 is being literally slaughtered for the benefit of updates to good old SH3.

Look at the VII-interiors for instance. And many, many ships.

Being slaughtered? No outdated game engine will 'slaughter' a modern game engine. Good try though :haha:

You really should avoid saying stupid things in public, especially ones that make you look like it.

Last post was over a year ago.

I don't know what "slaughtered" means in this context. But I can say that, based on two criteria: 1)posting frequency on the game-specific forums and 2) numbers of new mods and major revisions released in the past year, SH3 appears to have at least as much support, from players and from mod developers, as either of the other two titles. I actually did some analysis a few months ago, just out of curiosity, and that was my result. I was especially surprised by the extent of modding activity for an 8 year old title. I'm not sure that either of these metrics is a valid proxy for game popularity or activity, but they are at least suggestive (though I myself can think of counter-arguments for each).

I'd love to see an objective and believable survey of numbers of gamers playing each title and number of hours played per week. But I don't know how such a poll could be taken without excessive electioneering and ballot-box stuffing by dedicated fans of each title.

Perhaps this is somewhat OT and perhaps somewhat out of place in a game-specific forum, but I'd like to hear anyone's ideas for alternative ways to measure or estimate relative interest.

None of this matters anymore as we will soon be playing U-Boot-Hahd or Atlantic Warfare (not sure if it is the same thing):O:

But really - do we care about what is better or played more - can we not just go our own way and enjoy the one we enjoy:sunny:

Does it matter? No. Am I curious? Yes. Having played all three titles, I am interested in knowing how other gamers' opinions compare to mine. I can get anecdotal impressions from reading SubSim posts. But how does a game with a modern game engine compare with an 8 year old title in terms of player acceptance? A reliable answer might influence future development and investment by game publishers. (If you subscribe to the belief that game publishers make rational business decisions.<lol>) I'd guess that a lot of people who post here would be curious about that.

"Played more" does not equate to "better", and my intent is not to determine which game is superior. I imagine that many gamers switch from one to the other depending on their mood. That's cool.

BTW, I started with SH4 (Well, I really started with SH, way, way back, but had never even looked at SH2 or SH3.). Then I tried SH5. I thought that an 8 year old game with mediocre graphics would be of no interest to anyone besides a few old-school die-hards. When I saw the enthusiasm and activity on the SH3 forums, I changed my mind and tried it. I haven't regretted that decision. So the relative interest in SH3, SH4, and SH5 was useful to me. I don't much follow the crowd, but the popularity of different titles on the same subject certainly is useful information to me. YMMV.
