Chevy gets serious: biggest change for the Corvette since 1953

Wow, I want to drive one of these! :D

The new Corvette will be the quickest ever made. Equipped with a special performance package, it will be able to go from zero to 60 miles an hour in under three seconds.

The Corvette has changed a lot over the years, but it has always remained a front-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car. The new 2020 Corvette has its engine behind the seats, a change that radically alters the car's appearance and, certainly, how it will feel to drive.

Putting the engine behind the driver and passenger -- called a rear mid-engined layout -- places the heaviest single part of the car much further to the rear and closer to the driver's seat, making the car feel as if it's centered around the driver. Also, the occupants sit further forward in the car, closer to the front wheels.

My father has an Acura NSX which is also a mid-engine car. He told me takes corners as if it were on rails. And he used to race motorcycles, so I'm sure he's driven it to its limits.

When I first heard about the change to the Corvette, I thought that it would improve performance. I have a friend who is a die-hard Corvette fan though, and he's not happy with it.

So they're bringing back the Fiero? :D

Man, I think it's the best looking performance car around. I'll have to go by a dealer and have a look at one when they show up.

The 2020 EcoBoost Ford GT is cool, but it’s unobtanium. You’ll be lucky to see one, let alone drive one in your lifetime.
The new NSX isn’t quite as exclusive but it still starts at almost double the C8’s implied MSRP of $59,999.

Doesn't come with a stick. What's the point?

Mr Quatro 07-21-19 08:19 PM

But it does come with a double clutch and steering wheel paddles ...

Whatever that means ... Sounds tough to me. I would have to learn how to drive all over again.

I don't like the two removable roof panels, but a true convertible is planned for later entry.

I certainly like it, but it does not look like a Chevy, more like a Ferrari :)

Positioning the engine short behind the center may improve some driving characteristics, but drifting through curves will now be difficult to say at least.. of course there will be a hundred electronic gadgets and assistants to help..

Problem with mid-engined cars is that they tend to break out suddenly and without warning. You can go through curves much faster with this center of gravity, but the sudden behaviour in extreme situations becomes vicious. Once starting to spin you can not do much to counter it. Audi had to learn that the hard way with the TT.

Umm err "would i like to drive it?" :03:

Still interested Neal ... looks great lots of perks, but I still like Mustangs especially Shelby's

Me too was immediately reminded of a Ferrari.

I am not into sports cars or into Ferrari even when doing virtual racing (I do not even own a car since I am lucky enough to need none), but by looks the 458 or 488 I do like.

This Corvette could be named "Buck Rogers".

Interestingly, the Corvettes in both Assetto Corsa and in Raceroom feature driving and handling characterics that sets them apart from other cars of their class in these sims, and makes them quite distinguishable. I wonder how much of that typical character is in the real cars, too.

I don't know. In order to compete against European supercars it had to become a European supercar. This means that as fast as it may be, it's not really a Corvette anymore. They don't see it that way, so we're losing another American legend. Some think it's great. I think it's a bit sad.

2020 C8 Corvette Wheels Jacked, Car Left on Blocks

You have to go there they won't let me post a picture of the car :yep:

Sean C 01-25-20 12:58 AM

So, let me get this straight: this guy lives in Detroit, drives a 2020 C8, and doesn't at least use locking lug nuts? :nope:

Just a reminder, if you want to see the two new (racing) Vettes run in anger, this is the Daytona 24 weekend.
The race starts at 14:00 today, US east coast time. When it finishes, no one knows. :O:
The race-tuned cars certainly sound different. :hmmm:

em2nought 01-25-20 10:34 AM

I think I'd rather have a Monster Miata :D
