Neutral shipping

Newby question.
What's the go with neutral ships?
I have been leaving them alone, but I just came accross a convoy of mixed red and green ships, and I couldn't resist a green T3.
Should I go stand in the naughty corner, or just enjoy the moment?
Serious question (not the naughty corner bit).

Try not sink neutral ships for 2 reasons:

1.- you lose renown for every neutral ship you sink.
2.- If you sink a neutral ship, you become a foe for the next 24 hours and if you are spotted, you will be fired upon. Don't try to sink neutrals or friendly, specially near neutral ports... :03:

Reminds me of that time when I first played the game. I only sank neutral ships the whole day without knowing it:haha:

Well, personally I disabled all negative renown for sinking neutrals and have the following policy which I choose to abide by:

If they're a darkened ship traveling directly to or from Britain with suspicion of aiding their war effort, then they're a valid target. My understanding is that for the majority of the war the Germans had the same basic outlook. So have fun I say!
