Angels at OH 5 ....am engaging

:salute: Tally Ho!
16th July 1940 Spent day at 5mins readiness, no convoys through the eastern Channel so Jerry took the day off, sending only a token raid at the Western approaches. Some new Hurricanes arrived to replace our losses from yesterday. 17th July 1940 Another quiet day, some scuffles off the Anglian coast but nothing in our area. 18th July 1940 Another dull day, weather dull too. 19th July 1940 7:30am take off to patrol convoy COWBOY off Beachy Head. Fairly uneventful flight, few quirks to work out with the Prop pitch on this Hurri, kept changing even when I wasn't touching it (stupid thing went back onto AUTO) made it very hard to keep formation. Landed back at West Malling about 11am-ish. Thought Jerry had taken the day off but a big do was picked up on radar at just after 18:00, we scrambled at 18:22 and met a load of 110s and Stukas over the Thames Estuary gunning for convoy CRUSTY. I got one, then met up with Red 2, having lost contact with the CO, to find another flight of 110s. Tackled one but clipped him during close maneuvers and lost starboard wing, bailed out over Canterbury way and got a taxi back to West Malling. We lost six aircraft and five pilots, including the Skipper, but claimed 18 109s, 21 110s, and 19 Stukas split between four squadrons which intercepted. My personal claims now stand at three 110s. http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/6940/shot013d.jpg First sortie, standard patrol over the convoy. http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/5783/shot014i.jpg Coming in to land, my first squadron landing...surprisingly organised, IL2 could learn from this. Still glad that Friendly collisions are off though... http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2885/shot015l.jpg Landed and taxi-ing http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/818/shot016td.jpg 43 Squadron at RAF West Malling http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/8619/shot017nj.jpg Second sortie, turning into the furball, if in doubt follow the flak! http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/5498/shot018bx.jpg Diving on some Stukas, gave one a quick blast as I went past, but nothing came of it. http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/7277/shot019wi.jpg Chasing my first 110 of the day http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/1829/shot020t.jpg Which the markings tell me is from ZG26 http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/6599/shot021z.jpg But not any more, he went straight in, no chutes. :nope: http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/3838/shot022me.jpg The second 110...literally seconds after taking this picture...WHAM http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/9627/shot023mw.jpg Blacked out briefly, came to and found my Hurri was missing something... http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/8035/shot024zw.jpg So left the office rather quickly. Heard two explosions, my Hurri and the 110...no idea if the 110s crew got out. Given how they weld them into their planes I fear they did not. |
Really need to get back to BoBII. :yep:

Oberon what is that game?? You said IL-2 could learn from it!?

Yup, the AI routines in that are much better than either 1946 or CloD

:agree: And a pair of RoF screens with my fav new and old machines.
I had transfered from Esc N.3 to Esc N.26 to get a chance to fly the SPAD 7, not much of a transfer to be honest considering that Esc N.26 was based at the same aerodrome as Esc N.3 so it was more like taking my bags from one tent to another on the other side of the field. http://imageshack.us/a/img541/9092/r...0215025213.jpg Above the clouds in my Sopwith Pup. http://imageshack.us/a/img826/4097/r...2716174757.jpg |

Not sure but I'm thinking your current direction is ALSO something to worry about :o

Love that vid, sadly the Hurricane isn't quite as forgiving as the Froggie, particularly when stuck in a downward spiral. :haha:

How was your flight? :salute: |
Managed to bag two TB-3's before having to limp home with a badly damaged engine and missing a horizontal stabiliser from my tail.
