Best free antivirus?

Whats your thoughts?
I need it for Win7

AVGWarhawk 11-20-09 09:01 AM

Avast. I use it for Vista 64 without issue. I believe it covers 7 as well.

Get the free home version. You will send in your email address and they send you a registration number good for a year. You can re-up in a years time. It is a good free AV.

Try COMODO Internet Security.

or Avira.

Antivir is pretty good. Don't have to shut it off before loading up any sims or games, and the support is great too. Although the cost of paying for it isn't bad, as I originally paid about 60 USD for a 3 year service, and a week later they sent an email and applied a bunch of coupons and rebates and knocked it down to around an actual price of 14 USD per year for a 3 year service. So I really can't complain about the cost of it, and it works well with my other software, and hasn't caused any interference with games or anything else.

Just my .02 cents

You....

can have AVG,but the best I use is F-Secure Client Security, it cost a bit but you can be relax and calm for unhappy thing...:)

Have used AVG...but will give Avast a try

I am using Panda Cloud on Win 7 64bit. Very low resource use (the lowest usage process on my PC) and it never bugs me with crap, just sits there blocking viruses.

I came to trust Panda years ago during the whole "blaster.worm" thing. I got the worm on my PC, as did a friend.. Norton, McAfee etc etc all wanted you to use removal tools, reboot in safe mode and back and forth 3 - 4 times. Panda just auto-removed it, no fuss and no work from me. That is what I want in an AV, one that does it's job and doesn't make me do it.

@ McBeck Take a look at other Avast and other anti virus threads posted here.

I've used Avast for a year on all 5 of my computers and no problems.

Avast is considered one of the best.

JSLTIGER 11-21-09 05:44 PM

Avast is fantastic. I've been using it for more than 3 years with no problems whatsoever. It has no problems working with Win 7 Pro x64, as that's the setup I have running on my laptop.

Aye, another vote for Avast. Never have any infections, so it must be doing it's job. :DL

Either that or you're filled with them and Avast doesn't detect anything...

But I'll vote for it as well.

McBeck 11-22-09 01:33 PM

Yeah...its trust tests that actully show the level detection rather than "I have never had any problems" ;)

I have looked around and avast seems to score pretty high...

Arclight 11-22-09 02:34 PM

I know, that's why the grin at the end of my previous post. ;)

Still, it came highly recommended, I'm satisfied and it alerted me 2 or 3 times in the past 2 years or so; it's at least doing something.

At the very lest Avast is at the top three. I run malwarebytes, firewall from the Vista OS and run Windows Defender once a week.

FIREWALL 11-22-09 06:16 PM

There's always NORTON. :har: :haha: :rotfl2:
