Music Files in SH3?

Hey all. I searched for a previous thread covering this topic but only found SH4 being discussed. Probably my fault, so sorry if I'm beating a dead horse.

I'd like to import my own music files for play in SH3. Is it possible to do this? Is it merely a matter of converting MP3s or whatever into the format used by the game and dropping them into the proper folder?

Regards.

The folder you want to drop music files into is data\Sound\Gramophone. (I'm assuming you want more music playable via the u-boat's gramophone, and not new background music for various menus and situations, which would be a whole other process.)

IIRC the game will recognize both the .mp3 and .ogg formats, but most people seem to feel that adding gramophone music as .ogg files gives you a more stable game and is less likely to cause problems. General consensus also seems to be that you should choose one format or the other and not use both.

If you have .mp3 files or files in other audio formats you can convert them to .ogg using any number of different programs, many are available online as freeware or free trial versions. :yep:

Just so. I use Format Factory to convert. You might also consider using MP3 Gain or similar to make all the files play at the same volume.

That's a nice tip, I've already modified the diesel engine sound from FM's mod to make it quieter since it tended to drown out the tunes inside the boat... but the varying volumes of my music files themselves was always an irritating issue.

Removing the original Gramophone file?

Can we safely remove the original Gramophone mp 3 without breaking the game? I find that theme unfitting with all my 1930's retro music.

There's some good sea shanty's and actual u-boat related songs on the u-boat.net website that you can download https://uboat.net/special/songs/

Yes you can remove all the songs in gramophone if you wish without breaking anything and while we're on the subject of gramophone, is there a shortcut key to play/stop function? and if not is there a file somewhere where I can key bind the gramophone?

Diesels to loud, drowning out the music...

Hi

Tried to use MP3 Gain to increase the volume on my music files, as I felt the ambient sound of the diesels in LSH 2020 drowned out the music.

I used the tools to try and increase the volume of the music, but it did next to nothing in game.

When I tried to bump them higher than the 105 db limit in the opanel in MP3 Gain, they ended up beeing distorted some how.

Any tips to how i can lower the sound of the diesels somewhat? The diesel sounds are in a format not accepted by MP3 Gain, so how do I go about turning them down just a tad?

Any links to files where that has allready been done?

Best regards
Ron
