Favorite SH4 Mod?
 
Ahoy!

It's been a lonnnnnng wayyyy to Tipperaryyyy..... I mean...it's been a while since I've been here....found my way back to port. Some familiar faces here. :)

So I am getting nostalgic. I have SH4 installed to this day (and 5 gasp)...what new or favorite mods do you all recommend? I think I have the Trigger Maru mod still in for SH4.

How does it compared to TMO?

Oh, not as difficult, prettier though... :O: - more ship models and a larger campaign. If you want dogged escorts chasing you from beginning to end though, FotRSU does not do that nearly as often as TMO. TMO is quite a bit more difficult, though we do have add-in mods in the planning stages now, that will add more difficulty in more ways than one. RR and I were kicking around the idea of a MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) mod about a year or so ago, since that was implemented in certain areas for a time, and then maybe even do a "US-style" ASW capability in the IJN's hands for those who want to see what the US subs would have been capable of, if afforded the same conditions as the U-Boats, but those are in the future, if we even get to them. One thing that FotRSU has that others do not, is an AI enemy that shoots torpedoes at each other, and at YOU... keep the Event Viewer active when playing, so that you can "see" them launch theirs - no 'penalty' incurred for its use in FotRSU because of the torps... :salute:

Does FORTSU simulate torp failure? And I'd assume it has more historical events?

Torp failure: Yes - can be very frustrating at times, though it is turned down in the base mod. Looking to do an add-in that cranks it up a pinch.

Historical traffic: No - at least, not in the lurker sense. There are pieces of "historical" we put in, and we try to simulate the traffic patterns, levels and escorting of merchants as time progresses, but we did not attempt an RSRDC-type campaign. Another future possibility, but that is a LOT of work. :salute:

I guess this is a matter of taste. I find the graphics in SH4 quite nice. The water movement and physics is virtually unparalleled (with the exception being SH5). If you add in FOTRS, it's even better. :arrgh!:
