Where to patrol to complete Mission

Hey Guys,
I'm playing the campaign mission "North Western Aproaches" and my current mission is to " Engage any enemy task force in your patrol area" and I have a crossed red circle on the map, does this mean I have to patrol at the circle or should I just patrol at the general area, because its really far north beyond the shipping lines and I want to catch the big fish so I would personally patrol more south but do i have to patrol there to complete the mission and if so at what radius?

Greetings Spuky05

Are you playing unmodded game or TWoS? For the latter, objectives are more of a guidelines than actual rules and what really counts is sinking enemy ships wherever and whenever you spot them:

thanks, I'm playing with Twos and it seems like the secondary misson type but I think i can patrol just in the general area as my understanding

I generally just put a 150km diameter around the red X and patrol in that area.

Where are you meant to be patrolling? The area between Iceland and Scotland has a decent amount of lone merchants (which are much more exciting to see than a convoy IMO), so you shouldn’t get bored if you’re up that far north.

Re: SH5+TWoS missions...

Ahoy... :Kaleun_Cheers:

My understanding of them, is.. unlike SH4's mission area designation... you're not tied down to a set area defined by a circle & having to stay inside it, to complete the mission objective...

Which, I have to say is nice. It harkens back to SH3 where you get told ok, patrol say... AM18, you go there & patrol in that zone area... any portion of it, not just 1 particular portion of it... & after some time, you're done.

As I say, this is My understanding on it... I go to the general area & start roaming around & hit anything that crosses my path, making sure of course, that what I attack, ISN'T considered 'neutral'... :yep:

Hope this helps...

Good to know. That was the impression I got, when playing TWOS too.
