USS Cod opens fire on Lake Erie

SOURCE.

Wish I could have been there for this.

Me too. That would have been awesome.

AVGWarhawk 07-29-11 02:38 PM

That would have been neat to witness. The one guy on the gun jumped after the first shot.

Same goes for me, no media attention in the Netherlands for this that i know off.

Must have been something, really enjoyed the movie at least one of our Allies honours this occasion.

Some extra info you might like:

The O-19 was the first submarine in the world using the snorkel system, later adopted by the Germans.
The O-19 was a mine laying Submarine
The O-19's cargo was 'medicinal alcohol' and training mines, seems they had all the party favours with them

The party that was organised by the Dutch for the crew of the U.S.S Cod lasted three days

Holy crap, I live ten minutes from the cod and I didn't even hear about it, or even hear it.

Well, it was more than a year ago.

didnt even know about this, even a year later!
and i live in Detroit, not far, probably a 2 hour drive!

its a shame the media didnt broadcast this...
besides, it comes to no surprise, the broadcasting stations were probably looking for a scoop on a murder or international affairs...:nope: thats always the case here in Detroit, murder is common. but not as common as people have made it seem. (again, the media trying to sensationalize...):nope:

but i digress,
yes, the dutch dont get alot of attention, which is very sad... i know a few dutch americans. Good people to get to know :)

P.S. sorry for my necro post, i just heard about this by reading the posts in this thread, just thought id share my thoughts...
