Hiding next to the enemy

I was in the photo recon mission, I got detected by the DD's, I managed to cripple one that was engines stopped and stern partly submerged but not destroyed.
The other was still hunting me, I managed to get right next to the crippled one and sat there, the hunter knew I was there but couldn't engage me because I was too close to the other ship.
It kept circling and I know it seems strange but I could almost feel it's frustration of not being able to do anything about it.
I had no rear torpedoes left so I had to wait till it crossed my path in front, I missed the first time but got it the second time it went past, then I reversed and sank the crippled one, all this was in real time, it was fun.

I remembered doing something like this years ago in SH2, hiding next to a crippled ship till it was safe to move, if my memory serves me right the enemy never knew I was there on that occasion.

yes, that is an effective evasion technique.
heading towards a sinking or damaged vessel is a good attempt to deflect detecting-escorts.
keep in mind that the escorts will effectively hunt you until they do not detect you for x number of minutes. the "x" value depends on the mod-set you are using. so, if you need to get away, hiding under a cripple until you can get below the therm is very effective.
well done, Kaleun.

Just had another unusual one.
I was in shallow water, I sank a DD but 2 more were after me, I submerged but very close to the bottom.
I headed for deeper water, I managed to sink another DD then the other one left the scene.
So I decided to surface, then I was spotted by 2 more DD's that were a long way off but they started to head towards me, I submerged again, this time the water was still shallow but slightly deeper.
They both came very close and DC'd me but no damage, then all of a sudden they both left the scene, I was glad but what made them go, I was puzzled?
