Lack of realistic armored sims.

It has always boggled my mind why this genre always got shorted when it comes to actual simulations.

For all the attempts the majority turn into utter failures.

Ipanzer 44 Fail
Panzer commander Fail
Across the Rhine Fail

Sim history is littered with failure's for one reason or another yet when compared with flight simulations one would think that modeling Armored conflicts would be easy.

Sure there is the occasional winner. Steal Beasts, Panzer Elite, Panzer Front. (T-34 vs Tiger would easily make this category if it were a finished product.)

Then there is the more common arcade shoot em ups:nope:

It just seems like developers don't get it.

I believe it will only get worse as time progresses due to the era gaming has entered as well as the target audiences of most big name companies.

I agree, Lets use T-34 vs Tiger as an example. You could tell that they started the foundations of this Sim solidly. The Tiger feels, drives and behaves more realistically than any attempt before or since. The noise levels, the hesitation during gear shifts all superb and far superior to anything up to this point. Then as if suddenly they (The suites) said times up, package this and throw it out the door were done here.

It could have been and should have been a masterpiece with guys building the Simulation paying close attention to detail. Unfortunately for us all the T-34 seems rushed and less detailed, Game balance was thrown in the mix and it was booted out the door in a condition that at best could be described as beta.

They came so far and lost a great opportunity to make a serious long term WWII Sim. Had they had the resources to add communication, command and control etc. It could have been a world beater of a Simulation.

Imagine if they used the Rise of Flight business model.

New tanks, scenery and single mission packages for extra $$
New campaign's.

But the business model was instead dump it and move on to phone apps only.:nope:

Thank heaven for Zee!

Same story with flight sims and subsims too I'm afraid :nope:

What the simulation community needs is a good indy company, willing to do the game properly and with attention to detail, rather than these consumer corps who's primary customers are teens playing on consoles.

Tank Sims

Don't forget to add Steel Fury to the list of realistic , well made sims. Not as striking as TvsT graphically but bug-free and 10 times the sim the stock TvsT( I am not counting ZeeWolf's work which has saved TvsT from extinction) is with continuing support from Graviteam the company that made it and a solid community of modders.

But you are absolutely right games like World of Tank are unfortunately what attracts the masses and the money. It' s fire and forget and it's mindless Hollywood-style entertainement. Solid sims are unfortunately like gourmet cuisine and fine arts just to be appreciated by a few and not real money makers.

What we need is a Bill Gate type of guy with money and passion to make the dream come true!
