I would like to join! But, you need to look into giving the "share" link either a longer expire time or an infinite expire time.

rentacow 09-04-16 12:13 PM

I thought it was permanent, sorry about that!

Edit: The permanent link is the same, it really ought to work. Try this one instead: CLOSED

FPSchazly 09-04-16 02:47 PM

My apologies, I was not logged into Discord in my web browser, which seems to have been the issue. I am now in!

rentacow 09-04-16 08:49 PM

Glad to hear it Charlie, welcome aboard. To be honest I thought Discord would give you a temporary username as I tried to set it up so that making an account is not mandatory. I will look into it...

rentacow 09-07-16 08:28 PM

New message traffic received!

Meeting time to play will be on Saturday September 10th at 4:00 PM eastern time (21:00 CET). You can see a countdown clock here

To join the game server you will need to download and install Tunngle.
Download Tunngle here. https://www.tunngle.net/
After installing Tunngle some further setup will be required to connect successfully. Please join the Discord server and ask if you need help. (see below)

Reinforce Alert v1.40
will be used. Found here: ra-dwx.narod.ru/download.htm

Mission will be decided before we play!

Meeting place for voice and text chat will be the Discord server, found at this link: CLOSED

Be sure to show up early for a test mission if you want to make sure everything is working smoothly.

I hope to see you there! :subsim:

FPSchazly 09-08-16 09:27 PM

I shall try and make it! My Tunngle wasn't working the other day, though, and not sure why... I shall have to look into it.

rentacow 09-08-16 11:31 PM

For Tunngle with Windows 8 there are a few things you can do to help your chances of it working properly:

Disable non-essential network interfaces by right-clicking on the start button and going to Network Connections. You can right-click on each one and select "Disable".

http://puu.sh/r4U2u/fe0850a66d.png

After that, press the "Alt" key and you will see some options appear at the top. Click "Advanced" and then "Advanced Settings..."

http://puu.sh/r4Uba/d6c309c217.png

Make sure Tunngle is at the top using the green up and down arrows.

Almost done! Now open dangerouswaters.ini in notepad and scroll down. Look near the bottom for .AdapterName "Tunngle"

Windows 10 note: adapters.txt may see Tunngle as something else (ie Ethernet 4). Bottom line is it has to see the adapter with the Tunngle IP address, they start with 7.

>> Make sure to restart Tunngle so you don't break anything :haha: <<

Keep Tunngle running and connected to the Dangerous Waters lobby when you start the game initially
To check what adapder DW is using, host a game yourself and check near the bottom in the chat box at the game lobby.

User @diegotiger from the discord server:

Tunngle renames the adapter when installed
that's where some people get confused
In windows 10, the adapter can be renamed like the other windows but the adapter directly isn't changed in name so like a nickname
So it appears as Tunngle there but windows reads it as Ethernet 6 for me and for other is may be ethernet 3 or 5 depending on how many adapters are considered local and the sorts
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the automatic adapter priority that windows 10 has compared to the older OSs

^^ Big Image. What you should not see.

Once everything is matched up, you should be able to play.
We'll see you out there! :yeah: :arrgh!: :salute:

FPSchazly 09-09-16 06:28 AM

Running Windows 7 and already had a look at all that! I'll keep you posted.

rentacow 09-12-16 02:09 PM

We had a great turnout on Saturday the 10th. Thank you everyone who showed up! Unfortunately due to some technical issues we were not able to start until about 2 hours after the scheduled time and even then had some technical issues.

I have decided to rent a VPS through Vultr.com and will be testing out the ability to host a game with that, for next time. A VPS should allow players to connect without having to use Tunngle, not to mention the high speed, high throughput internet connection! Stay tuned!

Once again, I will be making another post later this week when I have an idea if hosting via a VPS is going to be possible. Expect the game to be about the same time as before.

FPSchazly 09-13-16 03:59 PM

I would recommend people to show up earlier if you can in order to test their configuration. I was the one that had a lot (all) to do with the two hour delay last week :haha: but I now have a fix for my issue that could potentially help others out.

rentacow 09-17-16 12:13 AM

I will be around this Saturday most of the day to help people test configurations and hopefully play a few games. Stop on by and say hello!

After contacting Vultr.com technical support (Props to them. Really fast response and definitely knew their stuff!) it seems like a huge pain in the butt and more expensive than I had anticipated to host Dangerous Waters over a VPS. I will have to consider other options. The good news is that with proper port forwarding, and considering the risks of having open ports, almost anyone can host without having to use a VLAN client.

OK See you there!

Lowering radio mast...

I'm a bit curious. I haven't played a simulator online in any form since Longbow 2 in late 1999 or so. I think DW would make for a fun multiplayer experience. Not sure if RA will work. My old laptop is a bit wonky. I'm on LwAmi 3.11 for now.

rentacow 09-17-16 11:44 AM

Only one way to find out. Drop by the discord and we can test it out.

bottomcrawler 09-18-16 01:47 PM

I'll have to attempt to install RA first. Since getting LwAmi installed took a lot of time and effort (got so many errors it's not funny), RA will probably be worse, squared!

p7p8 09-18-16 02:53 PM

You can install RA next to Lwami.
Nobody play serious MP sessions with LwAmi - this mod is almost dead. Also some "features" of LwAmi aren't realistic like very strong broadband.

RA FOR MULTIPLAYER
+ very good enviroment (for example layer, bottom, ice etc.)
+ outstanding settings for weapon
+ very good weapon control
+ modification of TiW messages
+ rich ocean fauna
+ new sensors (photonics masts, laser)
+ many playable units
+ still developed
+ very good for designers "West vs East" type scenario
+ good manual for weapon
+ community
+ AI subs can attack passive and active torpedoes
+ AI sub can use own active sonar for detection

- longer HF sonar for "russian subs" than written in USNI reference
- narrowband is main sonar mode (but this is realistic)
- manual for weapon - have to read this because weapon settings are different than in vanilla

LWAMI FOR MULTIPLAYER
+ nice looking broadband (like in holywood movies)
+ some fleets have lots of units (for example Iran)
+ good "layer"
+ better for single player mission designers (more small surf and air units, more countries)

- too long range of detection for sonobuoys
- lack of playable units
- painfull for balancing MP missions because lack of units for both sides
- nobody play MP with LwAmi
- dead over 5 years
- AI subs use only active sonar torpedoes with both active/passive homing

Great mod comparison P7. I pinned your post to my discord server so that all can see.

=========FLASH TRAFFIC============
Impromptu session this Wednesday, Sep. 21st! Starting at 12pm Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 8pm Central Europe Time. Tunngle will not be required to join the game session. :yeah:

Let's get some numbers and let some fish lose!

Debatable, if not factually wrong.
RA offers so much more. So, so much more for designers.

I will try to attend. Since Tunngle isn't required anymore, why not.
BTW, anyone fond of multi-station platforms (in theory, not for this wednesday). Is there a way to actually share a station instead of 'blocking' it?
It seems when player 1 holds the F2 station for example, Player 2 will never be able to access it, let alone use it - which is a shame. Or is there some way?

Always thought about crewing a boat with ~3 people and role play a chain of command with authentic lingo. Could be fun!

Nope, that's how it goes. If you're playing by yourself, for example, and forget to assign all the stations to yourself, you won't be able to access those stations. It's rather unfortunate lol.

bottomcrawler 09-19-16 05:31 PM

RA now installed with no issues. Well, other than that the enemy is now extremely trigger happy. They fire almost a full volley of torps at me the second they detect me! So I'll try to hook up if I have the time either tomorrow or this weekend.
