War Grave uncovered in Stalingrad

I should imagine there are many more not yet uncovered such was the brutality on the eastern front.

I ACTUALLY AGRREE WITH RUSSIAN VETERANS OPPOSED TO BURIAL ON RUSSIAN SOIL; THE REMAINS-HORSES INCLUDED- SHOULD BE LOADED RESPECFULLY INTO CONTAINER TRUCKS AND RETURNED TO GERMANY:ping: FOR FORENSIC IDENTIFICATION ETC AND BURIAL IN GERMANY OR WHATEVER OTHER COUNTRY THE THEY WERE DRAFTED FROM.

Just cover them back up ... dead is dead :o

Respect the living :yep:

Its a war grave, Rather than build a highway over it. I suppose invite German officials to exhume and return the soldiers home.

I see the Daily Fail strikes again with the caption. "This item bears the name of the dead German soldier who owned it from Dresden, dated 1937." Its actually a makers mark by A. Aurich Dresden 1937.

They certainly deserve a proper burial, whether in Russia or Germany is besides the point.

Thanks for sharing the article.

Good points guys, I'd personally like to see them taken back home if at all possible.

Interesting article. I'm sure the families of the German soldiers would like to have the remains identified if possible and brought back home for a proper burial. They deserve that.

I have a grand Uncle buried somewhere on the Eastern front.

I agree with that those remains should be transferred to Germany after DNA tests. For both the reasons of burial in their native land and of reason that we don’t need them in/ on our land. My great grandfather perished under Novorossiysk - there were eyewitnesses of his dugout being destroyed by direct shell hit but since his remains were never found, he is still considered as MIA and doesn’t have a grave. So it’s good when the dead are identified no matter what side.
I cannot agree with an article’s statement of strategical unimportancy of Stalingrad - Hitler wasn’t an idiot - first the city was a transport hub for the whole South and if it was taken we would have much problems with supplying armies in Caucasus - this was it’s meaning in Civil War as well - that’s why it was besieged by White and why Stalin held it then. Second - it was an important industrial city producing tanks. So neutralisation of this threat was very important for Nazi if they were to take Caucasus.
