Want to Start Flight-Simming

Hey all!

I've attempted to make a few forays into the world of flight sims, but I keep getting overwhelmed by the steep learning curve. I really, really can see myself getting into this genre of gaming; but when I can't keep formation in IL2, it gets very tiring.

Any tips? Or am I screwed? XD

Keeping in formation with the AI in IL2 is pretty difficult as the AI wingmen will constantly change speed to create a "realistic" formation where not everyone is in the exact position all the time (just switch to autopilot and watch your throttle lever). The only AI that's flying at a constant speed is the flight leader. So don't worry if you can't keep formations. Most of the Lolwaffles have been flying for years (I do since 2002) and still can't keep a proper formation.:DL

IIRC, I used to fly at 60-70% throttle when in formation with AI, worked well.

By default, the AI flyes at 300kph, but that's up to the mission maker if he keeps the default or changes it.

Myeah, it's hard to keep up. Even back when I flew with JG53 and the flight leaders updated the rest with air speed & throttle percentage it was still a PITA to keep up.

Oh, we can keep formation...for about 3 minutes before we turn into a flaming ball of wreckage...

IL-2 isn't terribly difficult, all you need to really know to fly a fighter is the basic controls and some of the engine management stuff. Then you need some practice to be able to hit stuff and not stall all the time, but that's about it.

And not to forget that you can just turn stuff off from the difficulty menu to learn the basics, then enable engine management, stalls/spins, torgue/gyro etc. etc.
