Something else I noticed, for anyone that has a "90% and stopped loading" issue, I found that if you wait a really long time, the game may load and run.
When I first launch into the mission, my progress bar goes up to about 90% and stays there. I thought it was locked up, but I walked away for about 10 minutes, came back later and the game was running.

50% of loadtime comes from 75%-95% bar cover. I had 20 min load with wac5. 10 min nygm with some mods.
Some combination of mods mekes last stages of loading gets very slow.

This I get after sh3.exe steam patcher.

after running the patch is there a file called "sh3.old" ? I found that if I copied this file into the hsie folder then renamed it "sh3.exe" the batch file worked.
Not sure if this would help you.

Not sure if this would help you.

The patch does not run saying that it is an incompatible version in my steam installation.

Just with with a simulator installation downloaded from another source, I do all installation procedure I get to play the first mission and out of nowhere goes to CTD ..

You don't need to patch the file in the quote below with 'Patch_SH3.bat' cause I've done this alrdy:

If it doesn't work, the problem is perhaps caused by your mod list (combination). It's difficult to say via the internet..

Well, try baby steps..

First off, install the vanilla game and see if it runs at all. If it does not run at all even with steam vanilla (without any mods), try windows compatibility mode.

If it works, I would only activate 'WarAceCampaign 5.0' next and see if you're still able to load a patrol. Then I would try to activate 'WAC5.0 Campaign_Atlantic_Baltic' in addition to 'WarAceCampaign 5.0'.

Then I would keep adding more mods - one by one - until I am not able anymore to load a patrol..

There are simply too many factors that can cause your SH3 copy to crash if you immediately try to run such a long list of mods..

I know, it's time consuming when you do it step by step but that's simply the safest thing to do if you wanna find out why your game is crashing, I'm afraid :-?

We all had to troubleshoot at some point..
