The mighty Mikasa a tour though history
A little while back I had to visit Japan and the naval base in Yokosuka.
I stole some time and decided while I was there I would most certainly get to see the only pre dreadnought in existence Built in Britain she is the last example of her period and she served with the Japanese imperial navy for over two decades I go on board Mikasa and explore her and this is what i found https://www.immortalwordsmith.co.uk/mikasa-su-casa/ |
Nice article and interesting ship.

Kapitan, thanks for very interesting article! Of the two remaining participants of Tsushima battle, I've visited Aurora protected cruiser at St Petersburg. I hope that one day I'll visit Mikasa too. Although Japan is our neighbour, geographically it's much easier for me to travel to UK and Israel which aren't our neghbours ;-)

I'd better explain before I get in any more trouble. Back in 1970 I was serving aboard USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887), based out of Subic Bay in the Philippines. We were told we would be leaving Subic in March 1970, and paying a visit to Yokosuka and the World's Fair. Unfortunately Nixon's government chose that time to invade Cambodia. We were reassigned to another month on the gun line and thence straight home. So I hate Nixon personally because he kept me from seeing Expo '70, and I don't really hate you, but you did get to see a major piece of Naval History and I never will. Not that one, anyway. I did get to see USS Texas (BB-35) while at the SubSim meet at Neal's in 2008. |

Would be great to visit most of these. Maybe combine it with a few of Guy's Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives eateries along the way.
I've seen a few clips from what looks like a really well done movie on the Battle of Tsushima, wish it was available somewhere on DVD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJsWThDIjfk Not sure if that soundtrack is original or not, hopefully not. LOL I guess it, "Saka No Ue No Kumo", is available but the english subtitles aren't good supposedly https://www.amazon.com/2010-Japanese...SIN=B01GUOXKPQ Price isn't so great either. LOL |
I would have loved to have gone on the 2008 meetup would have been something memorable for sure
Never know maybe something will come up in a few years |
