Pirates! Alternative
 

Huge fan of Sid Meier's Pirates! but now I'm looking for something new. Tried the Port Royale series and am not sold on that. I really like the Napolean/ Empire TW naval battles and the selection of ships available as well. So does anybody have any suggestions for a singleplayer PC game?

One of my 'go to' games it the Pirates of the Caribbean by Akella with the PiratesAhoy! New Horizons mod on top. Makes for a lot of great playtime and some exciting battles.

I had a copy of that at one time, pretty sure I ended up getting rid of it. Believe the reason was that it couldn't be modded or I hadn't found any mods for it. Wasn't happy with the game vanilla.

The older PotC (was supposed to be called Sea Dogs 2 until Disney purchased the game rights) is moddable and the PiratesAhoy! guys have a fantastic set of mods for it. The later Age of Pirates 1 & 2 could also be modded, but there wasn't near the following from the mod community for them. This latest iteration (made by a different dev company on the same engine) is not moddable at all since they won't 'unlock' the feature set. If you head to PiratesAhoy.net they can get you set up with a mod that you willm most assuredly enjoy. I have many, many hours in the New Horizons mod.
