Now what I see is ;

Hydrophones you have "Normal Sweep", then "Follow Nearest Contact" and finally "Follow Nearest Warship".

Sonar you have "Estimate Range to Contact" and "Precise Range to Contact".

It looks like the Hydrophones are active on my type VIIB if I use the "Report" section, but the sonar does not function.

2560 x 1440 resolution

I would love to play this mod :( but my screen is 2560 x 1440 and even when I use the MOD for 1920x1080 its still really bad looking.

Has anyone by any chance got any work arounds please on this?

Am I meant to use this Custome Resolution Utility to run LSH3? If so can anyone explain how to use it please?

Thanks

Fubar:
You are correct. Clicking the "Sonar" icon results in two icons that seem to do nothing, Actually I don't know how you even got the..."Estimate Range to Contact" and "Precise Range to Contact" messages. I don't get any Tip when the cursor' selects' the Sonar icon. I'll look again later, maybe tonight.

Not much help from me. I run the sub program from my standard monitor resolution. That is, I have not changed anything although there is advice to change the screen/video settings. And my program looks just great. Maybe someone more advance in tech than I can help you. Hang in there, I suspect someone will log on and give you some assistance.

Fubar:
Ok more detail -
Click on Sonarman >>get 3 icons (Report/Hydroplane/Sonar)
Click on Report . three icons (Last/Nearest/Warship) ...great, works just fine
Click on Hydroplane, three icons...none of which is labelled with no pop up as to what they do or represent.
Click on Sonar, two icons...none of which is labelled and no pop up - again no label to tell the user what they do

A new problem:
On mission, get Message, "Return to base for special mission." OK did that and sailed back to Wil..haven.
Then...hit Esc to end the patrol, now what? Save/Exit? did that and now the program loads but crashes to desktop. Should one now select just Exit or what? No instruction or guidance when one gets the "Return to base...") message.
These kind of loose ends drive the user crazy and leave him hanging with no direction as to how to correct or avoid a crash.But require him to start the mission over from the beginning.

Please keep in mind I'm an Old Timer at SH3 and GreyWolves. And trying to actually help solve stuff, not just complain.

In referring to a equipment calendar, radar, sonar and bold are not available till early 1942, that may explain the non function of those buttons.

The radio signal is for immersion purposes, you can follow the orders and return to base or simply ignore them. Since you did follow the orders and returned to base, that ends your current undertaking, so you would want to Save and Exit, and start a new patrol.

Hope this helps.

I believe that the only way to use the simulation in high resolution is to install the "Living Silent Hunter III MOD". I've tried to use other mods and methods but I was never able to get the simulation to run without crashing or freezing until I installed the LSH3 MOD.

If you choose to install LSH3 MOD you MUST follow the instructions provided. If you experience problems you failed to follow those instructions faithfully. You can contact the LSH3 team if you have questions or problems not addressed in the installation instructions.

I found it helpful to print the instructions and go step X step (crossing off the completed steps as I went).

Other forum threads mention to always save your game before entering or leaving base. I do this and I think it is a good idea. It gives me a place to start over again if something doesn't go as planned or expected.

When you have orders to return to base be careful not to arrive at base too soon. It can mess up the games calendar of events.

I am trying to find information that might help you with the unknown icons you mention, my problem is that I am unable to reproduce this effect so far.

Archive1 11-22-21 02:50 PM

Fubar and Willow:
I think the problem re: the Radio/Sonar icons is as Fubar mentions and I alluded to earlier: That they are linked to not-yet-available equipment which will appear with the type ViiC when it becomes operational and is upgraded.
So I'll comfortably ignore them.

RE: return to base orders...did not know that one could actually ignore orders from Doenitz or Staff. Especially if those orders are expanded to say that there is a "special mission assigned". Seems counter to the Kriegsmarine standards. In this case, I scooted back as quickly as possible so your note re: returning 'too soon' may be in play...hope have not screwed things up too much.

I do not Save before leaving base, but that may be a good idea. I have saved after leaving the exit locks so if I have to re-start I can do so without going through the hassle of the locks all over again.

Oh, what is the WolfPack Water Effects Patch doing here? Not relevant to LSH3 is it? If that is true, it may confuse some less experienced users. If it is useful, should there be some message that ii can be installed?
Thanks for the replies.

In looking at the Radio messages, if you are currently at sea on 1 March 1940, and you have gotten the message :

19400301 500 19400301 2300 1 100 60 @Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote@||KOMMANDANTENSPRUCH - U-BOATS ATLANTIC||Abandon current patrol and return to base. Prepare to start next patrol until April, 2nd, 1940. You are ordered for special task!

this a prelude to Operation Wesserubung. If you return to base you can participate in the Norwedian Campaign starting 2 April 1940.

19400402 500 19400402 2300 1 100 60 @Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote@||KOMMANDANTENSPRUCH - U-BOATS ATLANTIC||When operation „Weserübung“ starts, fully use of all weapons against enemy ships is allowed in Norwegian waters.||BdU

However, most times there is no additional orders in some of the super mods, and you can ignore some of them. There are no consequences from BdU if you do. It is solely up to you. This one does have a followup orders.

Fubar:
Thanks, but I was at sea around Feb 10 1940 and all it said was along the lines of "U51 DC current patrol and return to base for special mission assignment". Nothing more specific. Not wishing to meet the Geheime Staatspolizei upon docking, I returned! But I'll know better next time.

The question remains...if there is a waiting "special mission" etc when one does get to Wil..haven how do you end the patrol? Esc then...Exit, Save/Exit, Return to Base?? and then how is the 'special mission' loaded for execution? Archive1
k_confused:

PS -Am about done collating the F1 file in a printable Word file for uploading for others to use.

There is, it's the Norwegian campaign of early 1940. Here's the sequence of radio signals regarding the operation ;

You really do not have to do much other than go to sea and follow the orders relayed to you in the radio signals.

There are other special orders in the message file if you care to look in data/Campaigns/Campaign/messages_en.txt. You can decide before hand if you wish to follow the orders or not. You can open the text files with Notepad or any other text editor application.

I may have confused you a tad in my initial response but hope now that I have made things a little less muddy. :D You do not have to follow the messages and your persona will not be penalized if you do, but you may find the special patrols to your liking.

Good hunting,
FUBAR295

Willow and Fubar:
You guys are great and an impressive support system for this very large SH3 upgrade.
I did not get any of these messages, Fubar, but will download and file for reference.

I understand that in a recreation, ie, game, there is no requirement for tight authenticity...especially about penalties for non-compliance with Orders...but that maybe should be made clear in the guidance in the 'handbook' for those starting the game, otherwise, as in my case, confusion results, problems need solving and the support group spends unnecessary time.

Oh, and when I did return to W...haven in compliance to the order and was confused as to how to 'close', the program did indeed crash. I was able to begin the patrol again using the previous Save while In Harbor Before Next Patrol (or whatever) and start the patrol/mission over from the beginning...but it was worrisome for a while. I always am concerned for how newbies handle programs. That is especially true if one wants to enlarge the user base, as we all do.
Happy Thanksgiving for those for whom it signifies.
