Mission Editor problem.

I found a tutorial video on YouTube of how to do a simple mission.
I followed it bit by bit doing what the guy was doing on the video, when he input the sub he then added a waypoint, he said all units must have a waypoint.

So I input my sub just like he did, I right click on it but no option to add a waypoint, I tried a few times thinking I might have missed something he did but no I did exactly the same.

Now I thought I would post the link for you to see, I couldn't believe it, the clip was gone and the user had closed his account, it wasn't like a new clip of a few days old it had been on a while, trust me to find that when I did.

So any ideas why after I input the sub there was no option to add a waypoint?

You do not need to add a waypoint. You will get a warning, but it is not necessary to Save the file. As for adding a waypoint, the Properties page must be closed. Then select the submarine, then right-click on it, and on the context menu there, you can add a waypoint. Don't forget to then right-click again, and choose "Head to waypoint". :salute:

Almost there but...

I got the mission almost sorted, just a simple one, I got it in the mission list, now the problem: The player sub is 'Unknown' so obviously the mission won't start.
I checked the properties of the sub and I tried selecting 'Human Controlled' both, single and not the HC but the one next to it, none of them seemed to work.

I can validate the mission and it shows no errors, if I select 'HC' it says no player sub selected, so I uncheck it but like I say it still doesn't show in the menu in the sim.

Something simple I know but what?

Update:

I got it sorted kind of... Mission showed up plus the player sub.

started the mission but something missing, it is a simple mission just to see if I could do it so don't laugh.
I had a large passenger ship supposedly coming from the USA to Liverpool UK.
I wasn't going to attack it as I wanted to see if the waypoints all worked, I was just going to shadow it.
I also had a generic escort attached to the ship but that as yet isn't showing, that is what is puzzling me.

Dates are the main thing. When I do the "File - New" on the menu, and it brings up the Start Date Start Time dialog, it can be difficult to remember what I put in there most times ( ), but it is on the "Mission - Parameters" menu also, so consult that. You want the submarine to enter the mission at that time. You can change either setting, it wouldn't matter, just so long as they match. Of course, you need to use a submarine that is valid for the date chosen. A really BIG thing with the ME and the player's sub, is on the Properties page for the sub. So right-click on the sub you put in and choose "Properties", or select the sub in the explorer tab of the right-hand portion of ME, and choose properties. In that dialog, adjust the GameEntry date and time if desired, pay attention to that "Human Controlled" tick box, and get rid of the "Delete on last waypoint" thing also. You do NOT want to automatically delete yourself... but the main thing is "Unit version date". If your scenario starts on 22 Dec, 1943, set the version date to 12, 1943. You sub should no longer show as "Unknown" on the menu.

Now right-click on your Passenger Liner, and see when you have it entering the game, and do the same for your escort. If you are using a scripted liner, and an RGG (Random Generated Group) for the escort, you will often find that the "clock" has to run for a whole day before the RGG will generate, so it will be a day behind the scenario date. Also, if you are too close to the RGG, it will not generate. Now, one way to avoid that is to have it enter the game 24 hours and one minute before your sub, but even then, RGG can be difficult, so I would skip trying that for now, just enter a named ship for simplicity's sake.

Of course, you mission's Saved name must match the folder name that you Save it to in the SingleMissions folder, but on the "Mission - Language localization" menu, it doesn't have to match, so you can name it whatever you want there, and that is the name that will display on the menu. In other words, you could save the file as "000167Adubdub.mis" in the "000167Adubdub" folder, but have that "Language localization" setting for "mission title" set to "My Wonderful Test Mission", and that's what will show on the menu, not the "coded" name you used for file name and folder. Use the "Mission Briefing" to put in some text to remind you of what you did. :salute:

Thanks Pro,

I did most of that and it worked, but I didn't have the dates like you posted, also in the mission the escort never showed and that could be like you said, either me too close or the date was wrong but I suspect the date.

Funny I used make missions in SH2 years ago, I think they were easier to do back then.

Well the waypoints worked as I wanted, I got the popup to attack etc but I resisted and kept my distance to observe, I will get more in to it now I have the basics, thank you again for your help it is very much appreciated.
