Well Bookworm you are in luck as that picture comes from a patrol that ended in the loss of U-124 in grid square AK. I got a little greedy and cocky when attacking a mid atlantic convoy. But i did get 2 hits on the HMS Rodney.
Still learn when it comes to Type IX's

bookworm_020 04-05-07 02:40 AM

Iv'e done some good hunting with the IX subs. I think I'll move back to a VII when I hit late 1944, then I have a chance of living!

I remember the commentary on TS as if it was only yesterday
(all times approx and GMT)

!400 Chris "Jim what's the best route to take to grid AK ?"
1401 Jim "Go via grid BF, travel north west into AL then easterly into AK"
1402 Chris "Cheers mate"
1423 Chris "Jim....you still there mate ?"
!424 Jim "Yeah, whats up ?"
1425 Chris "I've just found this massive convoy with 30 ships and just a few escorts...................Christ!...theres a BB in it's centre, honest mate"
1426 Jim "You lucky fecka I've never come across a convoy that big...about 26 ships is the biggest I've seen in GWX so far....I'm actually just off Halifax now and stalking a convoy of 24 ships probably headed for Liverpool"
1428 Chris "Good hunting mate"
1429 Jim "Same to you mate"
1434 Chris "That BB is the Rodney and I've just hit her in the bow"
1435 Jim "Well done, I tend to go for the boilers first so if they don't sink then at least they stop and you can finish them off when the escorts leave them"
1440 Chris "Jim, she's ploughing into the sea head first but still moving"
1441 Jim "Give her a little time and keep an eye on them escorts"
1442 Chris "Will do mate.....how you doing with your convoy mate?"
1443 Jim "Just biding my time, being patient and trying to get into a good position for a dusk attack"
1458 Chris "I'm fecking sick....I've just been sunk!!!....ah well, another career down the pan, time to start another"

Number three and the really cool moon on the last one for me:up::up:

mr chris 04-05-07 04:09 PM

Thanks Mush, number 3 is my personal fav out of that bunch. Though have been having some Graphic card problems of late which i thought had fixed was is a bit of a pain as i cant play the game as much as i would like. Torn between getting a new card or waiting a while and buying a new computer. All depends on how much i can save and how fast. Dont you just love life.

This was to close for comfort, especially as we were already badly damaged by another mine:damn: Just outside Dunkirque, the lights on the surface are from an armed tug that did not like my sinking of an Auxiliary cruiser. Without his lights I would never have done it, both scopes and hydrophone gone, mines everywhere!!

I was returning to Wilhelmshaven with only 2 eels left after racking up 60,000+ tons when I received a report of a convoy due west of me, sailing at 6 kts east.
So it was an easy intercept.
I managed to remain undetected, & fired the 2 torps at about 4000m. One was aimed at the bow (below the first turret) and one at the stack.
Unfortunately somehow I got detected (at night, at persicope depth, 2 kts silent running  ) & the whole convoy started to weave.
My first trop missed just forward of the BB's bow, but the second hit. The Revenge sank soon thefeafter.

Very nice indeed.
The sailors seems a little pissed that you did not give them the time to launch there life boat. Ah but war is hell.:arrgh!:

Lzs von swe 04-08-07 05:49 AM

Thanks Chris:up:
They can swim back to Landīs End:yep:

Jimbuna 04-08-07 05:52 AM

Why are they so impatient :hmm: They've got a nice warm fire to keep themselves warm....they might as well just wait for the next boat that comes along, and catch that :yep: :arrgh!:

Man, I remember when I first joined Subsim, this thread was like 16-17 pages long.
Subsim has had an explosive growth in visitors lately, it's amazing.
