Condense the time

I am new here. 73 yrs. old, retired police officer. Have always loved to read naval war stories especially about subs. Am enjoying silent hunter IV wolves of the pacific. First time playing a naval game like this. I have two problems. I am using a dell lap top windows 7 and it does not have a numerical pad. So, how do I condense the time? Also, how do I get my letter keys to work to activate the controls? I can only use the mouse right now. See, I really am new , and will probably need a lot of hellp.

At the right side of the screen, down at the very bottom is a + and - buttons, you can use them for 'time compression".
You can only go to 32X unless you are on the map screen which will go higher depending on what your computer can handle. It will automatically drop back down if you encounter any ships or land. So around a base it is hard to get any time compression until you get away from all the ships. Not as easy as a keyboard command but it will work.

If you didn't get a manual with the game there is a support folder in your install that has a manual with the keyboard commands. Most of the manual is usless but it does give keyboard commands.

After you get more comfortable with the game, you can try editing some of the keys. Lots of threads on here explaining how to do it. I just installed on a laptop and remapped the time compression keys to '<' and '>'.

Now I just have to re-train my fingers...

Once you feel a little more at home, you can try mods to improve the game a lot. It's like playing a new game :ping:
