Bears are too effective?

Playing the 1968 campaign on hard difficulty and against any surface force there ALWAYS seems to be a Bear present, even when I'm not too far north of Iceland where you would think the Bears would be vulnerable to NATO interceptors. Furthermore they always seem to know where you are, it's like they can see you through the water and know where to find you or exactly where they need to drop sonobouys.

Any opinions and/or solutions on this?

Yes, they are looking into this if I remember correctly. They show up where the shouldn't and seem to be a little too good at finding you.

In the meantime you can disable them.

Create a folder called "override" in "steamapps\common\Cold Waters\ColdWaters_Data\StreamingAssets" and put this file inside:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5S...ItSVF6MVk/view

It will stop movement of ASW aircrafts (helis not included) so they can't detect you with their overpowered MAGs.

I noticed the same problem with Tu-95. It's overmodelled LOL :D.
His crew knows everything (without sound buoy also).
This is the magic, simply ;>.

Btw. the fuel is unlimited I think too.

i believe the devs are planning to fix Bears in the first patch.

Does this affect Mays as well?

Yes, it's for both aircrafts.

Yup just found an error in the calculation of nautical miles to nearest recon plane or airbase on the strategic map. Fixed for version 1.01 so no more Bears patrolling near Iceland :hmmm:

Next fix is to expose the MAD parameters for modding and check the AI for their ability to keep homing on your exact position when they really shouldn't know it.

Awesome! Thanks!

Something else for the devs to work on is setting the cruising depth of the allied torpedoes..

Watch out for them "sunk" ships too, some of them aren't dead! Had a mission where I'd sunk everything and was getting ESM from the north, so I went north for a while, when I checked again. The ESM was coming from the south. Turns out it was coming from an Udaloy I'd sunk earlier. I confirmed this by sailing in circles round it and saw purple lines coming from the wreck.

Also, rather alarmingly, the wrecks of the Udaloy and the Krivak can fire their standoff ASW torpedoes from the comfort of the seabed!! This has nearly killed me twice.

PL, What is the function of the Override folder. It is mention several places, I do not have one.

Thanks

PL_Harpoon 06-11-17 08:07 PM

You don't have it cause it's not on initial install. You have to make one yourself and if it's there the game will load config files from that folder instead of "default" so that if you want to return to vanilla game you can just delete/rename the "override" folder.
