Lost both tires (1 on touch down, second during braking), but survived so balls to them. :O:

As I'm severly lacking in my knowledge of dropping munitions on enemies(I only really know how to fire the GUA and AIM-9's) I load up the unguided bombs tutorial. I plan on dropping all my munitions and then heading towards the nearest friendly base to practice landing. Fate had other plans.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...030_182636.jpg Here's a shot of an MK-82AIR coming down on some tents. Managed to take two tents out. You can see my other crater which took out a tank in the center of the runway.

As these were my last MK-82AIR's I switch over to the regular MK-82's and get ready to practice CCIP CR 3/9 mode. I come back around and enter a dive, since the piper was looking like it was going to overshoot the target I dropped the dive a little more and released the bombs.

A chain of events flashed before my eyes, first Betty started telling me to pull up, then the release piper went funky, and then there was an explosion, and I was no more.

Here's the aftermath. In the background you can see the two tents my last MK-82AIR took out, in the foreground you can see what's left of me.

Considering the conditions (summer heavy thunderstorm preset IIRC), I call it great success! :DL

Bloody miracle I even managed to find the field let alone the runway.

Spike88 10-30-11 09:25 PM

Did you land this visually or with ILS and instruments? :hmmm:

GSpector 10-30-11 09:36 PM

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

Great landings are those that leave the plane intact :03:

Here are some shots from the Guided missions training mission.

My last GBU-38, and my last kill for the day.

Coming around for the last run. This one actually went wide and was my only bomb that did not destroy a target. 3/4 is not bad though.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...030_230949.jpg
Barely visible, but there are 3 boats down there. I had the urge to buzz them, but decided against it.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...030_231924.jpg
Home safe and sound with all the systems off. The landing was a close one, on the first run I'm almost down when the tower told me to go around. Mind you I touch down (in the middle of the runway :haha:) a second later, but I know that I'm not going to have enough runway to stop, so I throw the throttle back into full, retract the speed brake, and go around. The picture of the boats is actually from my go around approach. I come around again, meet up with the runway almost at the half way marker(bastard plane just kept floating). I had full speed brakes, flaps, and brakes and I still wasn't stopping. The end of the runway was approaching fast so I turned the wheel a little back and forth. Some frightening tire screeching sounds later and I'm at a complete stop. Luckily I did not blow any of my tires, I turn the plane around and taxi into position.

Tomorrow I take on the Maverick training mission!

@Dowly, if you want screenshots without the little information bar at the bottom, hit LShift+Y. I'm fairly positive It's LSHIFT, but to be fair I did press LCTRL+Y and Lalt+Y too, so It could be one of the three. It's in the controls as Turn off or Remove Info bar.

Nice landing Dowly. I'm pretty sure your chief is going to shoot you, but nice none the less.

Visually using TAD and navpoint I had set to the AF.

Of course, I didn't remember that the navpoint is on the center of the AF, instead of the
start of the runway, so I had to do some quick maneuvers around the time I
saw the runway number flash past my right window. :haha:

Hard right rudder, nose down (had around 100m altitude at that point), managed
quite a smooth first touchdown (as in, didn't break anything), but the angle
I came in made me bounce and lost the left wing on final touchdown.

Practicing guys? That's cheatin'! :O:

I can successfully deploy cannon, sidewinder, one mav (never two?), cluster bombs. I can't deploy second or more mav (I'm usually in the ground or on fire by now!), or any guided munition like the Mk-82.

CBUs my favourite - a nice coverge for taking out soft targets, occasionally it'll take out a T-55 too. :yeah:

Must practice myself, but not tonight - BF3 finally arrived through my letterbox!

Dowly 10-31-11 08:27 AM

Managed to figure out Mavericks, need to check out the bombs tonight. :hmmm:

Hey! It's not cheating when everyone else(save dowly :O:) can kill things better than I can.

I just finished the Maverick tutorial and managed to kill 4 targets with my 4 mavericks. Last target that died wasn't the one I wanted to kill(I had been trying to get a second T-52 farther up) but the aiming with the Maverick is a bit of a pain. So I settled on another target that it wanted to lock onto.

There would be pictures, but I failed to take them while flying, and then failed to realize I couldn't view tracks for tutorial missions.

Spike88 10-31-11 06:12 PM

While everyone else was enjoying themselves online, I was having connection problems and was forced to play with myself(:haha:)

Here are the shots I got when playing. As I'm used to flying MP missions where there are no Labels, I forgot to make sure my labels were off, so the following pictures sadly all have labels.
