Hi, noticed a damaged ship in the convoy. The year is 1942, if that matters

about Fw 200 condor

Hi OneAlex maybe this remarkable bomber can appear more often ingame...
In history Ww2 he is very assisting to Kriegsmarine,I think I saw him couple of times, early war 1940 above Irish sea when I was atacking big convoy

Escort detection issues

Hey Alex, sorry to bother but i'm having some issues. I attacked a convoy at dusk in July 1940 with VIIB (early war) and sunk one tanker, damaged another but when the escorts started their attacking/searching for me with asdic I was already down to 150 meters at silent running at 1 knot (less then slow speed) yet they could pick me up and determine my exact position with ease. They could always pick me up even when I did hard knuckles at fast speed (to turn quickly and get away then I set to 1 knot speed after I clear them) while depth charges were going off to mask the sound and maneuvers to different depths, I even went down as deep as 185 meters and cruised at 0 and 1 knots and still they end up finding my exact position. I was followed for 12 hrs of game time even though they used all their depth charges but kept locating/following me through pinging and at any depth at any speed until i just said **** it and exited the game(they would follow me all the way to France if there was such a battery capacity, lol). Nothing I could do to trick them, even at 1 knot at silent running very deep you'd think you could eventually after all that blasting slip away in early war.

So my question is, is this normal for your compilation that the escorts are this OP(overpowered) or does it sound like my campaign is messed up someway and that type of behavior they're doing is not normal (shouldn't they break off after hrs from me being still and deep as a rock? and if this is normal then what file can I edit to make the escorts stop search after losing contact or stop searching and pinging after they've used up all their depth charges?

Update - It's like escorts are on god mode and I can be at any depth any speed won't make no difference, I went to 220 meters really close to crush depth and a crawl speed of less then 1 knot and still picking me up with ease.
I can't go any slower/quiter or deeper so how do I lose these buggers?

ivanov.ruslan 10-06-21 11:52 PM

Strangely, i managed to get out in 42nd of two destroyers in about 3-4 hours, even repaired in half the time indeed. By the end of the chase, the bombs were over and they just revolved around me. Definitely the uboat marker worked, otherwise it's unlikely ...

Hi. For successful escape from enemy escort ship I always do:
1 Silent running.
2 Speed 2 knots.
3 Dive to maximum possible depth
4 Maneuvering.
Additional facilities which decrese sonar/hydrophone effectivency:
1 Storm contitions.
2 Thermal layers.
3 Randomized sonar/hydrophon settings.

I can escape in 1942 so in 1940 there is no problem to do that. You can watch my videos to see the proove.

Believe me try to atack in bad weathers storms and you can see diference...Greetings...I managed to attack like that even in '44 year...sunk 2,3 big ship and then escape at bottom of the sea while escort circling around

John Pancoast 10-07-21 02:57 AM

Once submerged, try going under any escort(s) after you. I.e, if their course is 180, you go 0 or so.
The escorts in the game are very weak regardless of the year so you shouldn't have any problems avoiding them by using realistic tactics.

Also, the profile that you show to the escorts is very important : the less surface area of your boat you are exposing to asdic pings, the more difficult it will be for them to locate you with precision. You should manoeuver in order that they are always in your 180°. Run at 1 knots, even during their first attack if they are already in your 180°. You should go flank speed only when you're sure that the DC launched have a chance to hit you. So, the key factor is to find the proper course for your evasion.

Also, never use the pre-determined speed (1) because it's too much noisy. You have to select the speed directly on your throtle dial (in the captain's view). Unfortunately, I don't remember what value to choose. Also, don't forget to be in silent running mod (which will suppress all unnecessary noises, like reloading torpedoes, pumps, crew voices, etc.).

Sound decoys can help you too, but it will be available later.

You also have to know that GWX settings are known to be very hard compared to the historic reality. So, maybe you could install a mod that changes these settings for a better experience.

And yes, SH3 is not realistic, whatever mod you will use. The AI is very dump and will never simulate a human behaviour. The AI will also determine very well your exact location (including your depth), which is just crazy, as if it could see you directly... So the best is probably to have too easy escorts instead of overpowered ones. Unfortunately, it seems that it's impossible to be in the middle of these two extremes...

It is not true. I'm not using the GWX settings in my mod. There are my own settings. And I don't recommend using any mod related to sensor settings because it can break the balance

kyle9154 10-07-21 06:08 AM

Guys your talking to me like I never played GWX lol, i've been a member here since 2011! I know how to play GWX, Onealex has hardcore settings with his detection settings for both above and below water, its GWX but more a hardcore version. Normal GWX in comparison is easy that's why I use Onealex but i do find the escort searching after hrs of attack and using up all their depth charges a little too over done, they left their convoy unprotected for 12 hrs!! they should have went back to it after say 3-4 hrs of depth charging me.
What file can I edit in sh3 editor to stop them searching for so long after contact is lost, also want them to stop pinging and searching after they used all their depth charges so they go back to escorting the convoy. So please can you tell which file is it, is it sensors.dat or AIsensors.dat or sensors2.dat?

Hi. For successful escape from enemy escort ship I always do: - I DID ALL THESE THINGS, it was a calm night and sea turning into morning but still it was a little funning watching it all in external view.
1 Silent running. - obviously
2 Speed 2 knots. - I always use the manual speed dial and went with 1 or 2 knots, sometimes less then 1
3 Dive to maximum possible depth - I did, 220 meters (do you want me to go lower and die)
4 Maneuvering. - again did it to clear the depth charges, also changed to deeper depth by 20 meters each time i maneuvered, going to 1 knot after the maneuver while dc's were going off to mask my flank speed sound.

kyle9154 10-07-21 06:16 AM

I'll reinstall the compilation because i think something is going on on my end for this unusual behavior, never experienced this in GWX (they would always usually give up after several hrs of depth charging and then losing contact with you or they would give up and leave after using all their dc's in normal GWX)

I'll try the maneuvering idea you guys gave next time to keep the escort at 0 or 180 degrees from my stern or aft, that's the only thing I didn't do what you guys mentioned.

P.S. I did notice things like my hard knuckle to starboard wasn't working or sending messages of convoy sighting wasn't working in radio messages, other times it did so that's why i'm thinking my install or career got messed up somehow because some mod features wasn't working as intended unless that's just what these escorts do in your version.:k_confused:

This is the reason. They heard you when you started ahead flank

kyle9154 10-07-21 06:34 AM

I did go for 1 whole hr at 1 knot at silent running at 200meters changing directions but they just followed me and picked me up everytime, speed didn't matter it seemed no matter how slow I went, that flank speed was only to avoid depth charge hits nothing more - I quickly go to 1 knot after I get the speed to quickly change direction, should I only avoid depth charges at 2 knots changing direction?
