I think it's an Easter Egg from a movie I've never seen or something like that. If you know what it is, feel free to tell me!

looks like the Flying Dutchman, a ghostly galleon https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pic...236263&thumb=1...don't waste a torpedo!

There have been multiple reports over the years, with this being the most-used report thread:

 razark does not believe in ghosts, especially the Flying Dutchman, but most of the rest of us have seen it... :har:

LIES! LIES!

Another one drawn into the conspiracy! Why do y'all do this? Always claiming to post "pictures" of some "ghost ship" that doesn't even exist!

(Seriously, where do y'all find this thing? Years of this game and never once have I come across it.)

propbeanie 03-25-20 07:45 PM

:har: - That's that same shot you have used before, good sir! :har:

Notice though, how your mouse cursor is "green" there?... You may not have waited long enough for the Dutchman to show!... :arrgh!:

shiver me timbers! doomed to sail the sea forever, ne'r to find port! what was his crime? :salute:

I've been sailing the Pacific waters in a fleet boat for a long time:

I've never seen the Dutchman either, to all those that have supposed to have seen it, might I suggest that you cut your doctors prescribed medication down to an acceptable level. :O:

yeah, the old girl has been seen by many Kaleuns over the years. i suspect that it was part of stock but it does not have to be. any one of the modders could design a ship and create the graphics, etc and place it somewhere in the mix.
dont waste a shell or torpedo on her.

It is part of stock, I found the game files for her and was going to make a Black Pearl mod once.

My guess is you guys who never saw her play only Pearl Harbor careers, never Asiatic. Every time I saw the Dutchman she's somewhere in the South China Sea or Luzon Strait. Makes sense, since the original legend came from a story about a ship which picked up goods from the Dutch East Indies (Java, Borneo, etc.) then got into a storm, and the captain cursed God saying something to the effect of "Damn me but I'll never turn back, I'll get around this cape if I have to sail for all eternity!" Hence a ghost ship full of dead men cursed to sail for all eternity. Pirates of the Caribbean borrowed from the legend to make the Flying Dutchman into Davy Jones' ship, lot of alterations from the original 1700s legend.

Asiatic career, SARGO class, March 1942, Luzon Strait.

Close up, usual appearance.

From some angles the ghostly glow is off, looks like a typical caravelle.

Actually, I very rarely run out of Pearl.

I almost always start Asiatic, since it's so much closer to the hunting grounds, and it's full of nice little islands and choke points rather than boring open water and the Japanese coast.

Mios 4Me 04-06-20 01:56 PM

Has she ever materialized in a major battle? How do the Japanese react?

Texas Red 04-06-20 02:06 PM

I've run across it a few times, and let me tell ya, it's super annoying when you get a contact and press the period button to take a look only to find out that it's that damn ship again.
Definitely an Easter Egg.

go up to about the 5:30 mark... It is a Dutchman (Netherlands), of course...

Remember now, cover your eyes if you get scared... :D - and razark, just cover your eyes... :har:
