0331 - Incoming F.T.: RST: Convoy 2010/30 is B.HX.67. Beware of escorts! Keep radio silence! - B.d.U. -

0335 - Course 190°, T=14, silent running, 1.6kn,

0355 - Qu.1873AM - The forward sweeper runs back to the convoy. Altering course to 280° for submerged passing attack.

The target ships are a large tanker in Pos.1 and "Ark Royal" in Pos.2 of the middle column.

Note: A large tanker in Pos.1 of the 2nd stbd. column and a large steamer in the 1st port column are "Ami's" (US-American).

All torpedoes are G7e, K-b/Contact Fuse, running depth 4-5m, target angle 90°port, target distance 500m, target speed 5-7kn.

Tube I against the tanker in pos.1 of the middle column is a hit! The tanker breaks in two and sinks in a gigantic ball of fire within 1min.

Tubes III & IV against Ark Royal hit the stern but fail to detonate, as Ark Royal is turning away to stbd., after the attack against the tanker.

Cmdr: "I attack again with tubes V & VI, which are hits on the bow. The forecastle settles in the water but Ark Royal continues to make headway at a speed of 7kn."

Tube II against a large tanker in pos.4 of the middle column is a hit. This tanker also, breaks in two, explodes in a huge fireball and sinks within seconds.

Cmdr.: "The forward sweeper is looking for us inside the convoy, running around the zig-zagging ships, while the two rear Flower Corvettes are staying in their port and stbd. stations, looking for us outside of the convoy."

0505 - The V&W destroyer is running back to the convoy. Tubes I & II are reloaded with G7e torpedoes.

0508 - Surfaced after 1h43' and 4.3sm. Pursuing the convoy on course 100°.

0535 - Evaded the rear port Flower Corvette on a search pattern, ahead stbd., E=6000.

0540 - Tubes III & IV are reloaded with G7a torpedoes.

0547 - Corvette returns to the convoy.

0607 - Tubes V & VI are reloaded with G7a torpedoes.

0626 - Qu.1818AM - With the darkness having set-in, the boat is in position for a surface attack with the rear tubes against Ark Royal: Own course 155°, own speed 1.6kn. Two single shots from both rear tubes with G7a, K-a/Contact Fuse, running depth 4m, Vt44kn, Shooter: Ltnt.z.S. & I.W.O.Emmo MARBACH.

Both torpedoes are hits! Ark Royal explodes in a huge fireball after the first torpedo hits - must have ignited the forward magazine. The second torpedo hits, while Ark Royal is already sinking. After the attack, running off with high speed on course 55°.

0702 - Course 100°. "Dismissed from Battle Stations!"

Target ship is a Standard Steamer with military aircraft as upper deck cargo.

The result of the attack cannot be observed, as the boat is illuminated by star shells right after the torpedoes are launched. The boat is being attacked with surface weapons and is sustaining damage to the pressure hull.

0900 - "ALARM!" Boat is crash diving.

Cmdr.: "Another Standard Steamer in Pos.2, had military trucks as upper deck cargo and a US-American steamer in the same column, was carrying military aircraft. So much for remaining 'neutral' ...".

I attack the previously torpedoed Large Tramp Steamer with tube II, G7e, K-b/Contact Fuse, running depth 4m. The torpedo is a hit and the steamer sinks after about 5min., by the stem. I'm running off on opposite course and then on course 325°."

1. Flotilla had transferred Brest and I took command of U-94 a Type VIIC boat in September of 1940. First patrol was to be off the west cost of England near the entrance of the Bristol Channel. Had to dive several times to avoid aircraft and gave me an excuse to put the new boat through its paces.

Getting close to our patrol area a merchant vessel is spotted so we go flank to get in position since we are surfaced at night. Just as we are about to dive we suddenly spot a destroyer who also spots us and starts charging at our position. I attempt a potshot with the aft torpedo but it misses and we get depthcharged for several hours. When it seems they have lost our scent we go to periscope depth to take a peek. Unfortunately he is very close so again I snapshot with a torpedo as he begins firing at the periscope. This time there is an explosion but it doesn't sink the destroyer but it limps off.

We surface and charge the batteries and prepare to enter the Bristol Channel again. We hear a merchant on hydrophones while making our approach submerged coming from behind. We intercept his track and lie in wait and send two eels his way. Aimed a little further ahead than intended but make the C3's front deck go awash. Surface and finish him off with the deck gun and report in to command. We dive and continue eastwards and again catch another merchant on the hydrophones and it is another C3. Another two eels and a deck gun and we are once again eastbound.

We find a dockyard that I observe for a bit to see if it is worth the approach but decide with all the destroyers and patrol craft on hydrophones and the inability to get a good angle on the ships berthed there we head back west. We come across two ships entering the channel traveling together a small merchant and a tanker so we sit and wait. One eel for each hitting both amidships snapping them in half. I decide to head west to open ocean since we are making Bristol Channel into a graveyard.

While surfaced and charging the batteries we are bounced by several aircraft. Man the AA guns and go flank to get some distance then suddenly a couple of destroyers appear on the horizon we dive with barely charged batteries and hope for the best. Thankfully they end up depthcharging far off our position so we slink away back to Brest to several medals and promotions for the crew. Over 22,000 tons of shipping sank it was a very good patrol.

Great job! The longest time I had ASW chasing me in 1940 is 1h. Which Mod are you using?

Embarked on July 19, 1942 for our 8th patrol.

We chased a Liberty Ship around grid quadrant ED96, before finally sinking it with 3 torpedoes. However, we wasted nearly a third of our eels trying to sink her.

The next day we found a much better target. A Large Troopship. We sank her with 4 torpedoes, we surfaced to watch her sink but we were caught on the surface by two Avenger aircraft, we sustained minor damage from the attack.

We decided to head home, having completed our objective and we only had two torpedoes in the aft tubes, saving them if we needed to use them for self-defense.

We are now embarked on the return voyage.

We safely made it back to Lorient, arriving there on the 28th of August, 1942. We departed for our next patrol on the 18th of Septemeber, 1942. Our grid patrol zone was GR28, pretty close to Capetown, South Africa. We made it there on October 19th, 1942. We are starting operations in the grid quadrant now.

In grid BF48, we sunk a Large Merchant for 10,000 tons. Only ship sunk so far in our patrol.

1431 - Outgoing F.T.: To B.d.U.:
"Gustav Gelb!". Convoy 1329/2 sighted in Qu.0365AL top center. Course 83°, speed 7kn. E5/4, clear, light haze, vis.10000, >1000mb. - RST -

1531 - Outgoing F.T.: To B.d.U.:
Convoy 1329/2 now in Qu.0365AL top right. Course 85°, speed 7kn. 22 ships, 1 aircraft carrier, 1 V&W destroyer in front, 1 Flower Corvette in back. E5/4, clear, light haze, vis.10000, >1000mb. - RST -

1550 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.:

1759 - Radio report from Norddeich Radio about the "Land-Lease-Act".

Tuesday, 3 September 1940 - Rockall Bank

0530 - Qu.1937AM - "Battle Stations!"

0539 - Changing course to 175°, commencing attack run. Target ships are a Standard Tanker in Pos.1 of the middle column and HMS Furious in Pos.2 behind the tanker.

(Note: This convoy has pretty much the same composition as the one before, also, with HMS Ark Royal in it. Naming the aircraft carrier HMS Furious, is merely my attempt to simulate a different aircraft carrier running in the convoy.).

0550 - Tubes I & II, G7a, K-a/Contact Fuse, running depth 4.5m, Vt30, on the Standard Tanker, Shooter: Ltnt.z.S. & I.W.O. Emmo MARBACH.

Both torpedoes are misses, as the convoy begins zig-zagging. Either, the torpedo wakes or the boat itself must have been sighted, even though, no star shells are fired.

0551 - Tubes III & IV, G7a, K-a/Contact Fuse, running depth 4.5m, Vt44, on HMS Furious, Shooter: Ltnt.z.S. & I.W.O. Emmo MARBACH.

Both are hits in the forecastle. HMS Furious explodes and sinks immediately. Must have hit the forward magazine.

Cmdr.: "I'm altering course to 50° and running off at high speed. Approximate distance to the nearest ship is 1000m. The forward sweeper - a V&W destroyer - detects the boat and opens fire with its deck guns but the shells are way off. Showing the destroyer our stern and going to flank speed. The destroyer is gaining on us fast."

0556 - At a distance of 1000m, "ALARM!". - Crash diving to A+70. Wabos (Depth Charges) above the boat and astern during further course.

0642 - Surfaced the boat after 46min. and 2.3sm. The destroyer is still searching for us in the distance and dropping Wabos. "Dismissed from Battle Stations!"

GWX but I was also being dumb and popping up to take shots at him which would start the whole process over again. Having played so many different sub games I get the dumbs and try to irrationally kill ASW assets. He likely would have left a lot sooner if I didn't keep shooting at him. :haha:
