Please report to those Russian guys

Anyone with access to the Red Alert website or the other one, the towed array's on the Virginia class do not work on RA 1.5!

As well, the color scheme must be changed. On the Sphere and Hull arrays, with the colors being blue, most times you cannot even see the blue signal line but instead it is just a dark color where the line should be.

I had contacts on Sphere and Hull less than 4 miles away yet Towed Array-P and S- would never find them or matter of fact it wouldn't even find the surface ships near by.

If the Sphere can find a target there is no way the TA wouldn't hear it, especially when you drag the TA right beside the ship...lol

Just tried SSN 23, same result.
TA won't find target less than 1mil from me and I turned and drug TA righ beside enemy sub.

I play the 688i class mostly and the TA on those classes work much better than everything newer, i.e., Seawolf - Virginia class

Not sure why you posted that?

Copy text above and write it in notepad with .mu extension. Then check TA sensitivity.

Stewy1 04-24-21 04:24 AM

Yes, I'm having problems with the 1.50 TAs too. They just don't seem as sensitive as the 1.39 TAs.

I need to do more testing though - currently trying out the Trafalgar TA against a Peruvian 209...

p7p8 04-24-21 04:47 AM

In newest RA maximum sensitiveness for TA is ONLY at full lenght of antenna.

As you see, TA sensitiveness is higher in RA 1.50 (-13 vs -12) but max speed is lower in RA 1.50 (14kts vs 20kts)

But main difference is new feature in RA 1.50:
Now all submarines Towed Arrays are needed to be fully streamed for max effectiveness. No more running with TA streamed to 1/4 of lenght.

Stewy1 04-24-21 06:52 AM

Thanks Pepe for that detailed information,

It's interesting, and I'm not arguing the point. It changes tactics significantly.

For example, you have to be at basically snorkel depth so that your TA works above a layer (I just picked up an Alfa in a Flt 1 LA with the TA (fully streamed) at 20.5 NM in the deep water off Norway). It's interesting too, because the LA boats don't tell you the depth of the TA.

In shallow waters (and even medium-depth waters), your TA is useless (or it's a speed tradeoff to get the TA 'up') - which is probably more what submarining is really like - though it also means that, more often, slow submarines will pass each other closely and never hear each other - which again is probably more what submarining is like...

It makes you rely on hull and bow sonar (hull seems very important) more in the shallows - which again is quite a change in tactics - more of the 'knife fights' :ping:

Please, I don't mean these as negative comments - it'd be good to get some discussion going on tactics in 1.50.

Cheers,
Stewy

I agree now under ice on shallow waters scenarios are much more challenging. But TB-16 or russian TA's can keep submarine keel depth at 6-7 kts. So using TA and pretending whole in the water is not good tactic anymore :)

Also all russian TA's can be deployed and retracted (from full lenght) much faster than west made antennas. Its gives them advantage in "knife fight".

KungPao 04-24-21 06:07 PM

That's interesting, I am still at 1.50beta and I didn't notice any sensitivity difference. I agree the tactic would be different after I upgrade to 1.50.

I am doing manual TMA in the game, usually will keep the 688i's TA at 1/3 length and Akula's TA at 2/3. After a 60 degree turn at 5~6kts it will take 2 min for TA to be straight. If the TA is at full length then it will take at least 5 min for TA to be straight, during this time period the data in the TMA will have a lot of error. So I guess in 1.50 I got to increase the speed to >7kts.

And yes, if at 7kts the 688i's TB-16 and TB-23 will be at the same depth of Sub. I was in couple shallow sea scenario and I was at 10-20ft above the bottom, at 7kts the TA will not touch the bottom .

So I guess in 1.50 it will be better to keep you Sub at 7-9kt if it is quiet enough.

The biggest challenge is that you got to lose TA when you get the TIW message. Highly unlikely that you can retract the TA then get out of trouble safely.

Yes, I usually run at Full speed and try and 'reel it in' before going to Flank.

If I've got the 'first shot advantage', I usually go below (or above) the layer to fire - I suppose reeling in the TA should also be part of the 'preparing to fire' sequence!:ping:

I just 'redid' that scenario where my LA Flt 1 is stalking a Foxtrot - going 7 kts with the TA fully out, I got an accurate solution on him at 22,000 yds (that's more than 10 NM!)

kpv1974 04-25-21 04:04 PM

Still depends on environmental conditions [13]

A-Ganger 04-25-21 06:19 PM

Thanks for explaining. I couldn't find any notes on the change or just missed them lol.

Will give it a try again.

My question now will be, why?

Seems they completely took the abilities of the TA away from its design!
The TA is NOT designed to be only useable at full extension to have it pickup contacts!
I stood enough COW to know that we used TA at different lengths depending on environment conditions etc.

Now you made the TA almost useless and NOT by design!

What's next, mach 1 mk.48 torpedoes?? Come on guys really!

You can always go back to minecraft.
