RA Question Active Torp?

I remember from I think SCX than when an active tracker was closing on you would also increase the frequency of pings. This makes sense as the seeker had less time to wait for next ping as it closed the distance.

So, I found myself listening to a Spanish F-17 torp which I thought had lost me. Apparently not. But it continued to ping at 4s despite closing in.

Comments?

Thanks.

Most torpedoes in active do what you say, called "range gating". RA has such a plethora of weapons that I suppose there are some torpedoes that don't range gate. Are you sure it was just one active torpedo out there and that there wasn't both a passive and an active torpedo?

I watched it in Show Truth (playing) a quick mission as KILO (RU) medium difficulty ASW Search, killed by a Spanish SSK with an active F-17.

Okay, thanks for that. Every time I play, I find out more about the depth of the mod.

Did you get that 4s data from Active Intercept Display? I believe the AID in the game has a glitch. The interval data won't update after the Torp is at final attack run (or range gating). But if you are listening to the sound , you will notice the frequency of the ping increase from every two seconds to half second.

I am running some experiments recently. I want to check how far the Torp will get a lock at a target, and what is the pattern of the "pings". What I am doing is to shoot a wire guide Torp . After it is 2nm-3nm away, I ordered it turn back to me.
For the F17 M2 attacking Rubis SSN's side, I noticed it will lock Rubis SSN around 1000 yds. Before the lock you will get a group of two pings at about every 12s , as the F17M2 is doing a snake pattern search. After F17 get a lock, you will get a continues ping every 4 seconds. 400 yds away, it begin range gating, the frequency increase to one ping a second

Hopefully it helps

I may have missed the final death run to target as it transitioned to lag and was in my baffles, but I had thought active detection was 360.

I did notice (I think I was in a modern SSN) when it approached from the side and hit the dead zone going to lag, an active CM, and flank/hard rudder usually got a good dodge of the F17.

Thanks.

Yes, there is a baffle zone for Active Intercept too. At least on LA class, it is the same baffle zone on the sphere sonar sensor, 60 degree on the stern.

on the other hand, active torp's lock range is greatly reduced when coming from stern. In my testing I found out a MK48 ADCAP can get a lock on imp LA's port side at 1.5 nmi away. but when coming from bow and stern, the range reduced to 1000 yds. That make sense as the Sub's front and side has different size signature. And you are right, if you have good Situation Awareness and know there is active torp in the baffle, a couple CM plus maneuver should dodge the active torp(prefer to be 30 degree off with torp's course ), if there is a layer, change the depth to the other side. Unfortunately for a passive torp is chasing at your baffle, it is very hard to dodge by using the tactic mentioned above

So it is a very dangerous situation if a both an active Torp and a passive Torp chase the player's Sub in its baffle. Good news is the same trick can work on AI's sub. :Kaleun_Salute:
