Detection issue?

Hello.

When last I played Cold Waters I was in a Los Angeles class submarine (1984) encountering 2 older model soviet diesel submarines. I spawned in rather close to them, so opted to just turn off all engines and just lie still and wait for them to pass me close by and then I'll attack them from the rear once they have covered some distance.

However, seems this is not possible, because despite my engine being turned off and ultra quiet being enabled, a soviet diesel submarine can apparently detect me anyway with their passive sensors when at a few kilometers distance. The enemy sub passive sensor value did go ito the positive value range, but how can it if I lie completely still in the water?

I dont know enough about submarines to be sure if this is realistic. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Cheers.

Even if you are full stop and rig for quiet, your sub need the reactor to be cooled and it use pumps. Those pump produce little noise but it's enough for your sub to be detected by other submarine at some distance.

Is that it? OK, that makes sense. Thanks for this. : )

Also, if when you encounter the enemy on the nav map at high speed, when you spawn, you'll more than likely be counter detected immediately. So always use right click on the nav map to slow down for your encounters. This is usually the way u get detected when you're all quiet.

You are never truly "all quiet" as others have pointed out. Also a sub is a big piece of metal. If you are pointed directly at or away from the enemy sub when it passes, your sub's physical profile is much less than if you allow the enemy to pass abreast of you.

Generally, if there is an enemy within 1000 yards, kill it as it will most likely see you every time and fire...

That explains a lot of why I am constantly detected at distance and then sunk when I'm rigged for ultra quiet.

Distance

Sometimes I am moving at high speed on the Nav Map and get surprised. When I go to enter the encounter, I start at 25k yards out. It may give them a direction but gives me the best chance....considering that I got caught speeding.

You can sneak up on them. I once simulated an intel gathering mission by
sneaking up on a Romeo. I was within half a boat length of him :)

Here's the video of it:

I sneaked up on this fella. Waited until he went over me then popped up and did an active snap shot up his behind. Job done. :Kaleun_Salute:

You can do this. It depends what speed you were during when
the encounter began. If you're 20+ knots, you'll be immediately
counter detected. If you're in the duct you might be detected.

I snuck right up next to enemy subs a boat length behind them, and
not been detected.

Here's video of that:
