Your game is generating a replay file even when you aren't checking the replay box?

Hi Propbeanie,

I have never had a replay file generated in my tests. My large file is always the "SaveFile.rep" file. I just ran a test with a Gar class and clicked the "Replay" checkbox while saving. That generated a "ReplayFile.rep" file, but that file was much smaller than the "SaveFile.rep" file.

If you re-run a test, try a Gar or Tambor class from Pearl in 1941. Both give me large save files at difficulty levels higher than Easy. The Porpoise and Gato (in later years) classes seem to work normally for me.

That is really strange. I just tried with a Gar boat, and the save file is a whopping 101mb, with nothing... Looking in the folder itself, and comparing the other saves to this one, there is a minimal replay file, as all the others. however, the SaveData.crp file is 15 times as big as it's closest "rival". The InstantSave.rep file is over 2 and 2/3 as big as the next largest, and the SaveFile.rep is an unreal 212 times as big... wow. It's stays that way after the next save... Is it "saving" the whole world, but not the way Superman would?...

Yes, the one Porpoise save toward the Marshall Islands had a replay save with it, which was just the boat traveling, encountering one Allied ship enroute... Very strange and very boring fare... The 2nd save of the campaign did not keep it.

OK, so I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Thanks very much for taking a lot of boring time testing this for me. I've spend over six hours running test after test and I'll have to play Porpoise and avoid Gar and Tambor if I want to keep the files the "right" size.

Yeah, I'd worry about a corrupted save not restoring, which usually happens immediately after you've just had a stupendous patrol and are on your way home...

You're way more than welcome for it. I'm also looking for things that might be found in FotRS Ultimate, so I'm off to see if I can get similar to happen in it...

is there a list somewhere that spells out all the mods that are compiled into this mod that work together? i dont want to activate a mod that is already in the GFO mod itself

yes, inside the GFO download files there is a "read me" file where I list ALL the mods that are included/built into it

I am looking to set up a career based on GFO/RSRDC. In comparison to the stock game, I am looking for:
- less bugs,
- increased immersion in the campaign,
- no huge increases in difficulty, definitely no DDs with super duper sensors or planes that see me when submerged.
- less planes.

Here is the JGSME list I am planning:

1 GFO 1.1
2 Real Environment #1
3 GFO patch for Real Environment #1
4 RSRDC 401
5 RSRDC patch 4xx
6 GFO patch for RSRDC 401
7 Nav Map Makeover 2.1 (without the airbases)
8 3000 yard bear plotting tool [my resolution]
(9 Better Air Patrols?)
((10 TMO optics for RSRDC?))

Not sure I am going to need Better Air Patrols, hence the parenthesis. Gonna try without it, initially. Not sure about TMO optics for RSRDC either. I may or may not try it if I notice enemies with super sensors repeatedly.

So this is all standard stuff that is recommended by GFO itself, except for the last four. Will my plan work? Any advice appreciated. I see in this thread that I should probably stay away from Gar and Tambor due to savegame bugs. Anything else I should know?

I think Better planes is included in GFO. Also, you can add OTC for GFO and RSRDC.

I'm not secure if 3000 yards is compatible with Nav Map Make Over.

Good hunt!

I have used the 3000 yard plotting tool along with nav map makeover before without problems, modded directly onto the stock game. Hopefully that's the case here as well.

Yes, I also think Better Air Patrols is in GFO, but I don't know what the case is after RSRDC and the GFO patch for RSRDC are applied. That's why I think I may need it again at the end.

THEBERBSTER 03-24-19 07:20 AM

Hi TS
IIRC yu also need this mod for your GFO.

Ah, you are right, TheBerbster. I thought it was included in v1.1, but it isn't. Cheers!

You can use RSRDC 550 and the patch with GFO.

And yes, you can use Better Air Patrols over RSRDC.

I recommend you OTC for GFO RSRDC and not TMO optics.

And Pacific Sounds mod.

Good hunting!

Good suggestion, Fitzcarraldo. I will add the Pacific Sounds Mod (and Stop the Shouting after it).

OTC sounds good, but it scares me a bit that it might have unintended consequences in my soup. Here is the installation I am currently planning after further pondering:

No OTC version

1. GFO 1.1
2. Webster's New Order Bar Menu
3. RSRDC 401
4. RSRDC 401 patch
5. GFO patch for RSRDC 401
6. Pacific Sounds Mod
7. Stop the Shouting
8. NMMO 2.1 no airbases
(9. 3000 bear plotting)
((10. Better Air patrols))
((11. TMO optics for RSRDC)))

I see an OTC version for stock game and one for RSRDC 550. OK, assume that I replace RSRDC 401 and its patch with v 550 and its patch. Do you know which OTC I should use and where it goes?

Something like this maybe?:

Potential OTC version?

1. GFO 1.1
2. Webster's New Order Bar Menu
3. RSRDC 550
4. RSRDC 550 patch
5. GFO patch for RSRDC 401
6. OTC for RSRDC 550
7. Pacific Sounds Mod
8. Stop the Shouting
9. NMMO 2.1 no airbases
(10. 3000 bear plotting)
((11. Better Air patrols))
((12. TMO optics for RSRDC)))

Also, is OTC heavy computing-wise? A hot summer is coming here, and I will try to protect my laptop by not installing anything too heavy (which is also why I may not use the 3000 yard tool after all).

TMO optics for RSRDC just changes AI sensor abilities afaik, in case I find that RSRDC sensors are too hardcore.

fitzcarraldo 03-24-19 07:31 PM

The second list is OK but if you use OTC do not use TMO optics. They are incompatible.
OTC is for stock or GFO and RSRDC 550 and patch, and works fine with GFO for SH4 1.5.
Another nice mod is Razzle Dazzle skins of ships for stock, it changes the skins of merchants according to dates and look great.

Regards.
