Submarine Theory Taught by Admiral Lockwood and Introduced by Fleet Admiral Nimitz A classic 22 minute black and white presentation by two of submarines most recognized Admirals: Lockwood and Nimitz conducting a school-of-the-boat presentation about submarine operations. This video contains some great footage of actual fleet boat submarine evolutions. Cost is $18 plus S&H with USPS 1st class, U.S. only.

(added 2/18/08): "Submarine D-1" (1937) Starring Pat O’Brien and Wayne Morris. An historical, great B&W feature film, Running Time: 98 Minutes. The U.S. Navy and the submarine base at New London, Connecticut, had to approve the story to protect military secrets. Ronald Reagan had a bit part in this film but didn’t get past the cutting room floor, even though he still shows up in the credits. This film has some SUPERB historical footage of New London, Panama Zone and San Diego submarine fleets of our pre-WWII United States Navy subs, many of which can be identified by number. Cost is $20 with S&H by USPS 1st class, U.S. only.

(added 2/15/08): "The Growler Story" This gem of a story, lost to us for over 50 years, was filmed in 1957 by the Pacific Fleet Combat Camera Group, for the CNO and was directed by none less than John Ford (Rear Admiral USNR Ret.). A great 20 minute color feature with Ward Bond and Ken Curtis. This is the story of how a submarine commander by the name of Howard Gilmore came to utter his famous last words "take her down" thereby earning the Congressional Medal of Honor (posthumously). Cost is $15 with S&H by USPS 1st class, U.S. only.

"Diesel Boats Forever Tribute"
A 23 minute DVD copy of the presentation made during the USSVI 2007 Alaskan cruise honoring the 149 initial Qualification diesel boats for each of the submariners signed up for the cruise. Included in this very moving presentation are pictures of the boats, their battle flag and/or ship’s patch, submarine tenders, submarine bases, and some other great pictures and paintings, all with a great naval musical background. Cost is $15 with S&H by USPS 1st class, U.S. only.

Considering the first film is about sub theory for US boats in WW2. It seems appropriate to put it where the PTO guys hang out.

It isn't the first time such stuff has been posted here and stayed.
