ueen!

the plane of choice for sightseeing, due to the spectacular vision that is allowed by the bubble canopy.

The plane can pull up to 4.4 G. Topspeed 240 knots, maximum altitude 18,000 feet. Fully IFR certified. Aerobatics and dogfighting possible.

This plane now replaces my SIAI SF.260 Marchetti, which has served me since many years in this size segment.

The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen!

The flight model deserves special recognition, they did some tricks in there that make this one feel really good. Spinning, splipping and all that - old hats for RealAir, I am talking standard flying. Hard to nail it in words, but youj realise it when flying it - this one feels different, more vibrant, dynamic, reactive to the air around, more playful towards the wind. True joy to just draw circles and loopings into the sky with this one. Wonderful! I can see why this addon has scored maximum points and appreciation with reviewers. Nothing negative I can report. Nothing.

That looks lovely. Is the water GEX or something else?

REX 2.0.

On my old installation, having GEX and UTX led to instabilities when flying the 737NGX. I am not certain that it was either of these, but after setting up my system all new I left these out, and have a totally stable FSX since then. The evil doer probably was Ultimate Terrain X.

I also did not expect to go back to VFR flying again, and thus textures only making a difference at low altitude seemed to stress ressources for nothing.

Scenery on the pics, although almost invisible, is IcelandX.

Skybird 01-05-13 04:45 PM

I did a lot of flying over Iceland X the past days. I would not say it is a sensational scenery, but it is one that has its own unspectacular beauty if using it in winter, with all and everything snow- and ice-covered and the ruggedness of the FSX terrain graphics being eased in the eyes that way. Combined the twilight and weather it is some very immersive flying, which makes oyu emotionally react to the desolateness and loneliness of the landscape around, the believable melting of ground and sky at the horizon, and the gentle colours. So, to my surprise I get much more from this scenery than I expected!

Recommendation: make sure to fly in altitudes from 3000-7000 feet, that way you get most from it and also meet plenty of cloud layers to dive into. Warning: some of the fjords and the airfields there are tricky if you get surprised by bad visibility conditions, which with realistic wetaher and season settings I met quite often. Also, almost all NavAids are NDBs exclusively.

JR41 by PMDG and Lancair Legacy by RealAir. Iceland X by Aerosoft, REX 2.0, ASE.

More flying at Iceland. Approaching storm. Noontime. At gloomy times like that you really feel lonely up there, out there, where ever!

Keflavik, with the first lightnings in my neck.

Tomorrow or so it is back to the continent, into Heathrow. the lack of light is killing my mood! Have not dared to approach Heathrow scenery since my complete reionstallation. If I can land the PMDG737NGX there without FSX collapsing, then I know that I have choosen settings and setups wisely and that I have indeed a robust installation again.

Will not have been my last trips at Iceland, that is for sure. With surprisingly little, FSX really does some magic for this scenery, at least in snow-covered winter. Very atmospheric. By looks, it also reminds of the giant Arctica scenery by Aerosoft (which I do not have and do not plan to get).

I liked some of the FSX pics too but they make me sad because after switching from Win7 32bit to Win7 64 Bit, I had to uninstall FSX and since then, I can not re-install it. I keep getting told that it's already on my PC and so won't complete the install and I can't get it to fix what it thinks I have because it's not installed :/\\!!

Rise of Flight, the basic game is free and you pay for extra aircraft.

11th July 1940
151 squadron took off from Gravesend airfield, I flew as Green 3, got into formation and began climbing to Angels 15. At some point over northern Kent Red 2 spotted bandits, Red Leader ordered a defensive split high and we ran straight into a flight of 109s. A chaotic furball ensued, I lost Green Leader, caught up to him again over Margate just in time to lose him on the R/T, redirected to Red Leader, only to have him go off the channel as well.
Found some 109s escorting a returning bomber formation, the 109s seemed rather docile, so put some lead into one, he broke away for France, I followed and pecked at him but he refused to go down. Gave up the chase when the cliffs of France showed up in my windscreen and RTB'd to Hawkinge to find I was the only pilot to bring their Hurri back. 8 pilots of the squadron lost, including the CO, and 11 Hurricanes destroyed.
151 Squadron was redeployed to 13 Group that afternoon to rebuild.

What a massacre. :dead:

15th July 1940

Transferred out of 151 squadron back down into the fray at West Malling with 43 Squadron. Still flying Hurris though. Promoted to Green Leader.
Took off at approx 8am, heading to protect Convoy ABLE off the coast of Hastings, spotted some distant contacts, called them to Red Leader but he couldn't see them, turned to get a clearer view but Red Leader called me back into the formation. Just as I was rejoining a furball erupted to our three o clock, called it out to Red Leader and he must have had his glasses on as he spotted it too.
Dove into the fray, found 110s! Not sure what was going on but don't recall seeing any of their rear gunners firing, bagged one and I'm sure I got another but someone else must have claimed it.
Lost the squadron in the process but dialed up Red Leader who seemed to be intent on pursuing the Luftwaffe back to France, was lead on a merry dance around the Channel trying to rendezvous when he decided to RTB. So RTB'd myself as the rest of the squadron started reporting low fuel, landed safely. We lost four men, but claimed 24 110s and 29 Stukas (split between four squadrons that were in the furball).

Now...time to see about adjusting some settings so that the AI doesn't take us all off to France again next time... :nope:
