SCX and SCU problem.

All right, I shall post here to stop myself from tearing out what little hair I've got left, and then possibly burning Microsoft HQ to the foundations.

Having finally run down my SC keycode, and decided DW's limited selection of Cold War platforms bored me, I decided to install SC again. On it went, and after a bit of jiggery-pokery I managed to patch to 1.08 and get it going. So far so good. Installed SCX and that seemed to go OK - except that the Akula was still the stock model, and I seem to remember SCX changing that. Moreover, the SCU wouldn't function and kept giving me the same error, over and over again: "Unable to copy periscope.dll from \Interfaces\AkulaII. Does it exist?" Well yes, as it happens, it does - I can see it, plain as day, in the bloody directory!

Any hints on this one, folks?

I am not sure why this happens. I seem to remember having problems as well. i un-installed everything then installled again and that seemed to work out ok.

Aha! I think I've solved it. SCX is now running, and I'm working SCU in Windows XP compatibility mode and running as an administrator. I think that if you don't run as an Admin, Windows refuses the program permission to alter the files necessary for the SCU to work.

A bump and a new problem - a bizarre CTD is now occurring which bears little resemblance to any other I've seen. I've been fiddling about with a mission for the Victor-II with SCU, where the player (and a few other Russian submarines - a November, a Juliett, a Tango and two Echo-IIs) is up against a US CVBG (with one or two other nations' ships) and sub escort in the Med. All well and good, but the damn thing is crashing at random - sometimes when I'm watching things going on in Show Truth (like the SSGNs attacking - very nifty), but sometimes when I do something innoccuous like order a course change. However, although the application can't be accessed anymore, the process is still running - a gander at the Process Manager shows subcommand.exe ticking away!

I had a similar problem, the game was crashing before it loaded and even began, what I did was, I re-installed the game and installed the SCX again along with the SCU and it was working great, I think the problem was that the subs installed from the SCU could cause the problem. It's fixed for now but every time I use caution when playing and save once in a while just in case.

BAsically I reinstalled it and tried to install the patch as carefully as I could and spend most of the time reading the Read Me file like 100 times just to make sure I wasnt missing anything. Now its working great.

Still nothing. It works, but in this one mission it crashes, completely randomly, without any warning. Last night I spent two bloody hours patiently setting up a fire-control solution on the Enterprise, only for the game to crash just as I launched a second spread of torpedoes. (The first set missed, incidentally, because the auto-crew mysteriously ****ed with the solution as I prepared the tubes. Helpful.) No error messages, no crash log, nothing. It outright refuses to tell me a single blessed thing. To be perfectly honest, I'm at the stage where any software developer walking into my presence should watch out for flying objects and/or fists.

However, there is no such crash in any other mission I've played, leading me to suspect it's something to do with either the ships I'm using, or the number of them.
