How to get IL-2 1946 running on Win7?

As the title states how do I get IL-2 1946 running on Win7 please, I have managed to get it installed but I get an error come up about a missing d3d8.dll file.

Would anybody have a copy of this and could tell me which folder I need to put it in.

Putting it into your game folder should solve it

Works fine fo me.

Guessing it's a fresh install? Try updating/installing DirectX9. ;)

I was under the impression he already did that...

Thanks for the download link Raptor1, I just uninstalled the whole game and did a reinstall just in case, now when I click on the shortcut for the game all I get is the cursor changes to a CD as in loading and the it does nothing, no game just the desktop.

My system specs are:

Intel C2Duo E4600 2.4ghz OC'd to 2.65ghz
4 gig DDR2 Ram
ATI HD 3850 PCIe graphics 512 ram
Win 7 64bit RC1
All DirectX has been updated to the latest available

Any ideas why it won't run?

Steve I had the same problem with the disk symbol. The issue is with the disk and how Win7/Vista64 handles it (security encoding or something) from what I was told on the UBI support forum.

There are two solutions that I was given. One is not really legit, as it involves a "crack". The UBI support forums do not allow posting of the link, obviously, but I am sure if you ask there someone can PM you the link if you choose this route. The other suggestion, and which I ended up doing, was to purchase IL1946 through Steam. The game runs flawlessly and I can mod it as well which allows me to use the cool AAA mod package.

Hope that helps.

Didn't see it mentioned. :)

Had similar issues after installing Win7, running DX9 web-installer fixed it for me. Kinda makes sense that if a DX file is missing, you try that first before inserting single files, piece by piece. :hmmm:

Inserting DLL's individually from sites like that are never a good idea anyway.

That said, the graphics driver can also cause this error.

Steve, sorry to press home on this, but did you use the online updater for DX? You really should try the DL package instead, and update the graphics driver if needed.

Thanks TheBrauerHour but I don't really trust cracks, and if all else fails I'll just go back and repartition my hard drive and install XP on it again.

@ Arclight, yes I did use the web downloader for the directx, guess i'll try the graphics driver and see if this is causing the problem.

This is the only game I have come across so far that has given me any issues with installing and running on Win7, very strange.

Steve
