Crashes at start of campaign - Steam win10 gwx

Hi all,

I cannot get campaigns at Lorient or Bordeaux to start. It crashes to desktop while loading. I am using Steam SH3, with Win 10 and GWX. Below is what I did for install....

1) SH3 install from steam to my E: secondary HDD where all my steam games are
1a) Right clicked and selected run as administrator and compatibility windows7...loaded up a single mission to check, all ok
2) Installed GWX Gold.... loaded up a single mission to check, all ok
3) Installed a few GWX mods, open hatch, 16k atm, integrated orders, enhanced damage effects used JGSME

4) Installed flat sun fix mod and compass on all nav mod used JGSME
5) Switched the voices to German ingame menu. Reduced music volume.
6) Again single mission works fine.

Then tried to start a campaign at Lorient and won't crashes to desktop. Restart computer, changed compatibility to windows xp SP3.

Again tried to load Lorient campaign and same result.

Note i did have to uninstall SH3 previously, I made sure to delete all folders that did not delete during uninstall. So this is my second try in install. It was workign before but did have alot of CTD.

Anything else I can try before I throw in the towell?

two other notes...

1) My native laptop res is 1920x1080.... note i have not yet installed a widescreen fix yet
2) Also note the Lorient campaing I am running is 1943.

Doing a search, i found a thread that had issues with campaigns GWX after 1943. But it didn't really list a solution.

Also, saw for steam and GWX and win 10, there is a 4GB patch?? Anyone know where that is located? Does this make sense?

Here is a link to a 4gb patch.
Steam/Win10 may be causing problems too but I use neither.

There is a small GWX mod-fix already available in JSGME that needs to be applied for late war sensors. Maybe the campaign you start already has those sensors applied. Consult the GWX manual for details. I never had to deal with it myself.

i'll be gosh darned....it worked!! Well the campaign out of Lorient started in 1943 and I'm a week into it, tracking a large convoy and racked up 50,000 tons, altho they almost got me last night.....

And no crashes, no issues. Unreal.

For those that have the same issue, the 4GB patch is what did it.

I tried everything, changing the name of the folder, running as admin, changing compatibiilty mode (altho i haven't seen this work on any game yet, even tho people always recommend it).

Note I tried the 4GB on the stock version and that didn't work as well for some reason. Was about to give up and figured i'd try the 4GB on GWX and it worked!!!!

At least so far. Thx all! Love this game.
