Reinforce Alert mod always needs clean installation - not updating.

From readme
Quote:

I recommend to install it on the "clean" version 1.04 - without any other mods [even RA any previous version].

Oh yea I know. I found out that my user acct profile on Win 10 was corrupt so I restored it.

Now I got game to launch, but when I switch to the 1200 x whatever it is the game crashes.

Forgot about changing modeid to 3 to fix the higher res mode so all good again

Ok, well there is definitely some weird issues lol

When I launch the game all is good UNTIL I hit the options button. This immediately opens a popup stating voiced recognition couldn't be loaded because the languages don't match.

If anyone is familiar with the process, this is coming from the windows file ctfmon.exe, which is the program that allows the computer to be run using speech recognition.
If I end the process this happens then ctfmon won't restart on it's on until I restore my profile.

Every time I reinstall the original game, then install v 1.49, I immediately get this error.

Twice now I have had to restore my Windows 10 user account to reset everything.

When this error occurs, the speech recognition fails to launch with the same popup error about languages don't match. Yet they do match and I only have US language installed on Win10.

Update after running game again the past hour:
All seems ok now as long as I don't end the ctfmon.exe task.

When I was running the 1.48 version, I never had these issues. When you launched the game and went to options, the speech popup would happen, but I would be able to click ok and go back into the game and finish changing options and play.

For some reason now when this happens, clicking ok on the popup would close it, but when you went back to the game it will continually switch back to the popup and there was no way to continue in the game because it was caught in this loop lol.

But as long as the ctfmon is running it seems to work.

ctfmon.exe is not for voice recognision.

Process launched when you open options is:

sapisvir.exe

This bug was in RA 1.48 and all earlier/later versions and vanilla too.

You are correct.

Ctfmon is the Microsoft process that controls Alternative User Input and the Office Language bar.

I was associating it with voice as an alternate control lol

Forgive me if I didn't read this closely enough to see if someone mentioned it, but I just let that voice recognition thing pop up and just leave it open. Don't close it. Since it's already open, the game won't open it again and it won't disrupt your game again.

+1
I just learned to leave this open and open another instance of the game.

If you have it on Steam that means navigating to its local directory and opening the dangerouswaters.exe manually.

Least that plus the .dll have fixed it for me on two Win 10 installations.

Yea in v 1.47 I believe, I could click ok and then go back into game etc.

But this time the popup would remain in front of game screen and basically lockup the game until you clicked the ok button lol
Then it would go back to game screen and keep popping up.
So unless you clicked ok you couldn't do anything.

It was all due to something here that was messing up the W10 speech recognition stuff.

It's all good now

A-Ganger 08-21-20 12:19 AM

Well we're back to square one again!

Reinstalled original game from steam, updated, IT won't even run on Win 10 even after copying the d3d file over?

A-Ganger 08-21-20 09:15 AM

Had to resort back to this thread, and now I'm running in Win 10 with the RA 1.49...All Good!
