Ever tried to do the ATC?

I have no clue on how ATC is done in reality, but this one looks pretty realistic.

The video is over a quarter of an hour. There is some introductory talking on speech recognition and screen resolution, skip it if you want by jumping to 4+ minutes.

I'd recommend the little utility VOX ATC if you want to learn how to do it properly. This program forces you to use the correct phraseology in order to get clearances etc.

There are some international differences which crop up on it occasionally, i.e. different transition levels in the continental USA to those in some European countries etc, but mostly it works just fine.

Just don't let your wife see you talking to your flight simulator like that or she will think you have really flipped - something of a foregone conclusion in my home!

There's also Air Command 3.0.

If you want to freak someone out and test their ATC knowledge on VATSIM, request some obscure info via the Q-code, and issue a 'Pan' call. Then you'll see if they know their stuff.:rotfl:

Yes, I know I am evil. Most of them will know QFE and QNH, but search the net for more, there are some really obscure Q Code calls.:rotfl:

On a more serious note, you can do ATC in FSX if you have the deluxe edition, which lets you operate the tower at an airfield. You can find a lot of people doing ATC on servers via FSX multiplayer. If you join one of these servers, I would recommend teaming up with another person who also has FSX and both flying in the same airliner, so that one of you can be P1 while the other works the radios. That's really quite good fun, and it is very stable too, which is one of the plus points for FSX.

Immagine 1 of hunters famous landings, multiplied by about 800 with planes scattered from australia to north Canada... Thats how well I could do the ATC. :p
