Mediterranean and enemy spawn points

Using TWoS.

I've always followed the advice to stay away from enemy ports so that the spawning of enemy ships from traffic nodes is not interrupted.

I'd like to sneak past Gibraltar and attack shipping around North Africa. Does passing so close to Gibraltar (or being near any other port in the Mediterranean) get in the way of traffic spawning.

I don't want to ruin a campaign. What does everybody else do when playing TWoS, particularly during the campaign which focuses on the Med.

I stayed close to the African side at night to pass the Gibraltar section, but still had to be very careful not to be picked up by the prowling escorts in that area. Once into the Med it has been very quiet so far.

Gibraltar: You must chose to pass at night on surface with bad visibility to have a decent chance to stay unspotted.

Don't be afraid to go near ports if you did save the game before. In the *rare* case you get problems with traffic not showing anymore you can reload a past save to correct it. Avoid saving the game with units in sight, this is what causes most problems.

Traffic in Med Sea: Be aware that you need to time your interception for many 100s kilometers in advance in the Med Sea, the reason is: Most groups will travel at more than 15 knots, even more than 20 knots. You only get 1 chance to intercept them because of your limited sub speed. Intercepting groups and getting in a good firing position is difficult. Because of enemy radar, your best bet is a day submerged interception, but you have to be lucky and be close when intercepting...Don't be deceived if you see them and can't attack them most of the time...
In the NavMap, increase your 'convoy report' range up to 850 to be sure to get notified of any convoy or 'Task Force' in the Med Sea.

Thanks for that, I'm still quite a way off needing to head in there but I'll save before I go in and see how it works out.

I play full realism (except external views). I quite like calculating intercepts and seeing it work out 200km down the track. As you say, difficult doing it submerged tho, I haven't tried that yet, not from long range anyway.
