Patrol "Hunt for wounded Bear"

I began this patrol with an American submarine type "Gato", departing from Fremantle in Australia towards the Pacific zone between Borneo and New Guinea, dominated by the Japanese in 1942. In this mission I decided to test the limitations of fuel, batteries, compressed air and oxygen. The performance of the batteries is depressing, if it was so in reality: poor crew! It doesn't take long to get the batteries at 50%, sailing at standard speed and recharging them takes several hours. You can only do it at night and dodging warship contacts all the time. During the day it is impossible, because when you surface in a matter of minutes, the game generates a couple of planes that appear out of nowhere. You dive in and they go, you surface and they come back. I am forced to remain immersed for hours immobile (so as not to use up all the batteries) waiting for the night. My goal is to sink the aircraft carrier "Shokaku", the friends of the high command do not ask for anything! Hahaha! I have saved the patrol to continue it later, I have not seen the aircraft carrier and the Japanese convoys appear and disappear very far from my current position, in the approaches to the Celebes sea. My diesel fuel reserve is at 50% and I do not know how to continue, I do not seem to return to Fremantle with all the torpedoes and empty hands. In 1942 everything around me speaks Japanese, I don't know if I have a friendly port where I can load fuel. What do you advise me to do, dear colleagues?

Let me guess, you're playing stock

Hello friend, I did not understand your message from the dog well, something is lost in the language translations, and if we add to that the different uses and customs in different regions of the planet! Hahaha! You guessed right, I'm playing SH4 Gold stock with some individual mods. Maybe that's the problem? Maybe Ubisoft wants to make things very difficult for us players?

A few months ago, someone else was doing the Hunt For Wounded Bear, and we tested things out for the mission and made a pdf file of pictures of my adventure while doing it:
The Hunt For Wounded Bear
A bit "tongue-in-cheek", or jocular look at things...

When traveling submerged, the slower you go, the less the batteries wear down and drain, so Ahead One Third is recommended for best length of time to travel. Also, do not be seen by the airplanes when you are traveling on the surface, and Crash Dive when an airplane is spotted, turning your submarine toward, or away from the airplane, to minimize the silhouette of your submarine. If you are not seen, the airplanes will not be around as often. When you are seen, you will have to stay down a while, and it is best if you change direction a bit, since it is rather predictable how far a submarine can travel in a given length of time. Good luck looking for the Bear... :salute:

i am glad you brought this topic up as i have been remiss in doing so myself.

i find aircraft patrols follow me even when i perform evasion tactics. for instance, i can successfully attack a convoy at point A, evade the escorts, and surface 7 or 8 miles distant (13-15 km). i will proceed at either full or flank speed on a course 90 degrees from the convoy heading and an hour or two later an aircraft is heading for me on an intercept course.

that is an unnatural patrol profile. Ubi is cheating.

Thank you very much for such timely advice friend! As I am activating some new mods that I have downloaded, the behavior of planes and ships of the "japs" has been smoothed out, allowing me to have a better chance of succeeding in the mission. Greetings!
