Will ahead 1/3 wile traveling save fuel?

some kaleun's make note of Standard Speed in Knots and then ring up that knot-speed on the engine order telegraph in the belief that it saves fuel. i, myself, have never experienced that. Standard Speed is your best bet. good luck! :Kaleun_Salute: |

I did a quick and dirty test for a 300 mile leg
At Standard, the fuel consumption was 5% of capacity (73%-68%) At 1/3 the fuel consumption was 1% of capacity (68%-67%) On this short a leg the numbers could be off a bit, but lead me to conclude that 1/3 is the setting that yields longest range for the stock V1.5 game. |
i decided to take a break from my TMO/RSRD career and run some fuel tests.
this is using straight STOCK Version 1.5 UBM. Indicated Speed from the EOT, Elapsed Time of 500 NM run, Percentage of Fuel Used as Indicated on Graph https://i.ibb.co/Q8qD8zD/Picture0058.jpg pretty close no matter which boat you choose. the last six classes are virtually identical in their fuel usage. keep in mind, this is NOT real life, it is in the game. i suspect that you can monkey-around with the usage by varying the Propulsion factors in the boatclass.Sim file but why waste the time. :Kaleun_Salute: |

I had burned up 1/3 of my fuel by the time I reached Hokkaido. That patrol was cut short because I had to return to Midway and fill the bunkers, then back to Hokkaido to finish my patrol. A lesson learned in assumption! |

Not sure about RFB, been a long time since ran RFB. TMO you can cruise at ahead standard( which runs about 15.5 kts) and get excellent fuel economy. Talking a trip from Pearl to Japan(midway stop for fuel en route) and ha ve about 65 70 percent fuel left. Once in assigned area run at 10-12 knots while cruising, will get plenty of time on station, run back to Midway at ahead standard typically and make it fuel to spare. This also keeps patrol length realistic lengths. If assigned to the more far flung areas such as East China Sea or Yellow Sea, may slow down to 12 kts about half way to patrol area from Midway, saves a lot of fuel, gives more time on station with the longer haul than say being off home islands, but keeps a respectable speed. |
