DC Unit Databases

So what do the databases actually do? What is their purpose and function, and what aspects of the game do they affect? I know that the numbers and alternates don't affect anything. What other fields aren't used?

Again off the top of my head ...

An entry is necessary for the ship to to appear in the ship viewer .
They must be in the database to be useable in Kriegstanz.
Oddly enough an entry is NOT necessary to be useable in DC.

Two words of caution
When you add new entries
1.always keep the reference number in sequence ( 4 digit number after the date entries)
2. Never introduce a blank line

That's what I thought, in DC the DBs do nothing re the units in the sim. Add new entries? :rotfl: I've been making whole new databases just for the fun of it. Don't know if they'll work, got other projects to finish first.

Query: the sequential numbers in the American DB start with 1001, British 3001, etc. Does this make a difference to the viewer? Hang on, I just realized the answer as I hit the question mark key... yes, because that's how the viewer organizes the different nationalities. Ach, so, to get the viewer to display Thailand, for example, I'll need to tweak it. Hmmm... max # of DBs = 10 (0-9). That's not too bad.
