TDC -how to use

Hi all.
Quite new to in the TDC business.
In order to update the target bearing I do:
Use Attack periscope, point at the target - go to TDC: enter AOB - switch angle tracking to AP, correct?

Another thing: estimating the target range, seems like I continuously underestimate the range; ID target, (mast height / count number of centiradians) x 100 to get range in meters?
At what range can I expect to be spotted by the escorts, when surfaced at night, and same question for daytime?

Thank you for your support!

Only just got the game a few days ago so still getting used to this new sim concept but I’ve been subsimming for years.

You are correct in that in order for the bearing to update, you must select the optics you are viewing with the top right knob. I would do so prior to even using the optics but may not matter.

Formula for range is correct. Can’t speak to specific detection ranges but the following rules of thumb apply:

1. At night, overhaul the target at a range that allows you to just make out the AOB (if you can barely see them they likely can’t see you), then when far enough forward, approach with your bow to the escort for a low profile at a low speed.
2. During the day, shouldn’t see more than the tops of the masts. If you see hull, it’s time to pull the plug.

One more thing - we get a TDC now with the capability of compensating for own course changes, meaning there is no need to re-enter AOB after changing course. This was an important feature of the real one as it allowed the boat total freedom of maneuver during the attack.

Hope to catch you in-game - I am Stosstrupp on discord.

Still new here but for range estimates,

Mast Height / Centiradians * 4 @ 6x Zoom

It's very hard to gauge range at 1.5 zoom.

You can also use the range chart(C) to help.

Thank You for the welcome.
Got range estimate down now. Sunk a few vessels, but still missing quite often...
As I understand the most important input is AOB and target speed.
Great game, really looking forward to the updates.

Yup, distance only influences salvo spread and accuracy if the torpedo must turn (gyro angle away from bow/stern)

will try it out

Well, distance is also needed for time to impact of course. But knowing that doesn't make the torpedo any more accurate on target.
