Suggestion: True Bearing Shown At UZO

Suggest building a true bearing counter into the UZO. This would be a proxy for the “Peildiopter”. That was a small optic that was placed over the bridge compass to enable true bearings to be taken, and it was typically brought up to the bridge when stalking a convoy. True bearings are vital when plotting or matching. With the lower light transmission now in the attack periscope, we need another means to obtain true bearings at night, especially in rougher seas.

I love the effects of the new water on the boat by the way, especially the direction of the sea, has a very nice feel to it!

True bearing counter .. in addition to relative bearing indicator? Just asking but knowing the course, couldn't the captain calculate the true bearing from that and the relative bearing?

Yes indeed. But in wind speed eight, that’s not an easy proposition. Not to mention, if they had something in real life, the ability to easily obtain a true bearing from the bridge (the Peildiopter I mentioned), we should have it in game.

Although it would be more "correct" or closer to reality if such a device is mounted on the compass, your suggestion to add a true bearing counter to the UDF of the UZO would be a quite good compromise. https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/113.gif (But since we already live with the compromise of a relative bearing scale inside the UDF, that's ok, I guess. https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/4.gif) It would make life easier.
Reading is easier than calculating, especially when things come thick and fast, right? https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/smilies/03.gif

After all, in Wolfpack it often happens that not all stations are manned by players. Not to mention players who prefer solo.
So it would be a good extension of the information for the man on the bridge who has the overview of the situation.

If this could be implemented without too many problems, the developers should definitely consider it.

By the way - I also really like the effects of the new water on the boat, and how the boat is affected by it

I agree this would be a really useful addition!

Thanks, gents. Exactly right, this will greatly benefit those who play solo in heavier seas. Plus it was possible and used in real life, so not just a quality of life item in game.

Absolutely correct.

Diopters placed on the compass have been used for a long time - and they are still common instruments today.
I think it's absolutely ok if this feature is integrated into the UDF/UZO. Let's call it "artistic freedom". :03:

Just want to bump this as I know an update will be released next week, would be a great quality of life addition in rough seas, and historically accurate as well.
