FIOS test

My first post from my new inet connection. Its only 15 MB/sec right now, but I think I'll do the 25 MB/sec upgrade and see how fast that is.

Do you actualy utilize that bandwith or is it more like a dick extension?

AVGWarhawk 04-10-08 08:43 PM

I have FIOS. I'm happy with it. Plenty fast for me. The rest of the house is wired with FIOS.

Do you even need to ask that question? :D How long have you known me on this board? I see your point though. Some people have no idea what they have.

Now I need to get all the damn spray paint off my lawn and rocks, and driveway!!! They spray paint everything for gas lines and comm lines, etc.

I'm going to finish it off myself. Verizon was going to charge me $99 a drop for Cat5e. I'll drop Cat6 for the cost of the cable myself. I need two drops to the TV from my media server is about it for now.

I'm paying 38 per month for just DSL. What else do you have to buy in this package?

I just bundled it up with my phone service for free calling in the US/Canada for $79 a month. I might switch that to VOIP at some point, but I really don't want my phone messing with my inet speeds.

The fastest they offer is 30 down / 15 up, though you would have to buy a biz package for this. For home pricing, fastest speed is 25/15. Slowest they offer is 5/2.

The greatist advantage - you get faster than cable speeds, and you don't have ot share the pipe with your neighbor. That is the biggest thing I hate about cable - when all the kids get out of school, your inet slows to slower than any DSL line. I'd keep DSL over cable any day though due to lower latencies provided and non shared pipe, regardless if it is slower than cable - but this is off topic now.

I have FIOS TV, computer and telephone service. My cost is $125.00 per month. Unlimited long distance calling, internet service (the speed is nice), TV is the basic package. We do not watch movies much and if we want to there is video on demand. Most movies are $3.99 and a lot are free. It does us no good to pay for HBO or Cinemax. We do not watch these channels but we can order a movie from them if we want. Overall, by switching to all their services I saved about $50.00/month over my old way with separate services for TV, internet and phone. Plus, just one bill a month that is always the same amount give or take a few dollars so budgeting is a bit easier.
